Non League Play-offs

What do people think of the play-off system in the non league. There will be 6 sides to go into the play-offs (2nd to 7th). The play-offs will not be over two legs with 4th v 7th and 5th v 6th. The two winners will then play away from home against the teams who come 2nd and 3rd. Seems a good system but if they bring it into the football league it could mean a side finishing 8th (9th in League 2) could go up.

It must be about 4 or 5 years ago that I put something which sounds similar on here about the Championship play-offs. After playing 46 games from August to May the team that finishes 3rd deserve more of an advantage over a team that finishes 6th.
I wrote then that I thought that the team finishing 3rd should qualify for the final and the team in 4th go into the semi-final. So 5th would be at home to 6th, the winners would be away to the 4th placed team and the winners of that play the 3rd placed team in the final.

I don't recall your earlier suggestion of this idea Andy, but what a sensible idea it is. Have to agree that 3rd place should merit some advantage and this would be a very fair and manageable way of achieving it.
