Who would've thought it?

I remember the precise moment I fell in love with Giroud.
It was Stoke City away in 2012, his second game for Arsenal. His first didn't exactly go well, having missed a stone-cold sitter against Sunderland the previous week, and this one wasn't going well either: he was ยญstill missing chances, trying to score scissor kicks, misplacing passes, physically obstructing his own team-mates by getting in the way.
If I remember right, it was the mare of all mares, the type of performance which can cause confidence levels to plummet and set an ominous tone for the rest of their career at the club. With that in mind, you could forgive Giroud if he kept things simple for the rest of the game, not do anything too stupid.
What does he do? With the angle against him, and the distance against him, Giroud tries to lob Begovic from about 40 yards, on 89 minutes when the score is 0-0. To his right, Ramsey is racing forward into an acre of space and a simple pass would've released him for what would've been a one-on-one. To his credit, it landed on the roof of the net I think, though ignoring Ramsey's run was still inexplicable.
We don't know any Arsenal players personally, but sometimes they offer huge glimpses into their character, what they're about, and that was a major insight into not only Giroud's self belief and confidence, but his ability because it was a fine effort, albeit the wrong decision.
As we know, the big man became a Centurion for Arsenal tonight, scoring 100 goals, and I hope you'll join me in toasting to his success. Looking back, it was never in doubt that he'd reach this milestone.

For ยฃ12 million, he is one of Wengerโs more successful signings of the past decade.

Giroud-Lacazette is reminisces of old fashioned 1970s/1980s 4-4-2 like:
- Nottingham Forest - Jones-Clarke
- Wolves - Droog-Brian Little
- Liverpool - Ian Rush-Dagish or Ian Rush-Keegan
- Stepleton-Sunderland?
- Van Persie-Eduardo
Both are different player.
Giroud the old-fashioned battling ram that can hold up the ball with his back to goal, wins knock-downs in the box and tearing holes in the defence for a predator to run in.
Lacazette is our missing sniffer, that fox-in-the-box that instinctive run into goal-scoring position in a flash.
Pity that Giroud one-two play on the ground and his short passes are awful.
Ideally, it will Giroud as Lone Striker with a No. 10 (Ramsey or Wilshere) and Lacazette behind him in 4-3-3.
But we cannot afford to have 3 forwards not tracking back to put in a defensive shift. But that is what the "2" behind them - Elneny-Xhaka - must do - defensice duties, cut-off passes and win the balls for Forward-3.

Love his attitude. Throughout his time here. He's one player you could seldom if ever felt for effort and commitment. Still remember the season he played almost every single game and managed to stay fit

He's done very well, I like him too. Probably for different reasons to Shane and it exposes my marriage for the sham it is.

Congrats Giroud on joining the exalted company of the Centurions.

Yeah big shout out from me as well. 100 Arsenal goals is an excellent achievement, especially considering how much criticism he has got over the years. I'm glad we still have him.
He never hides, he always responds to criticism, he scores in big games, he rarely gets injured, he's consistent, and he's also really, really, ridiculously good looking.

Giroud isnโt far off a 1 in 2 goal return ratio (better than 1 in 3 anyway), which proves what a good player he actually is despite all the criticism. I think the problem with him is the other game(s) he doesnโt score in he tends to poorly, misses sitters et and stands there with that silly grin of his instead which is infuriating when you need a goal.
He just isnโt good or consistent enough to be a top top player, but as far as backup strikers go (which is what he is now), you wonโt get many better in any team in the world. Heโs a very good option to have in any squad in my opinion.

Not as good as we needed him to be, but has done very well with the skill set he offers.

It took me quite some time for me to come to the realization that he's my favorite arsenal player. Its just too bad that because he's a very impactful sub at best, he'll likely be sold after I buy a shirt with his name/number on the back.
Same thing happened with Nasri

In that case can you buy a Welbeck shirt as well please?

Best goal? Plenty of candidates, but I love this. His touch was a thing of beauty.

I suppose I can't blame Giroud for Wenger not signing a top class striker since RVP left. But he's been a generally average performer and a severely frustrating player for years.
I love his attitude though, and he is very good at some things which can be valuable. Prefer him to Lacazett.

Even Merlion contributed to the thread without ruining it - although not for the want of trying it must be said - so no excuse for you I'm afraid. Park that negativity.
