Alloa Game

I've had the weekend to reflect on the latest painful result and conclude that we truly are one of the worst teams in the 3rd tier, the only saving grace is that Queens Park (so far) appear to be even worse than we are. That was fairly inept yesterday.

It's fearful, over cautious football with only one man up (Furtado) who is played out of position as a lone striker. He spent the afternoon receiving a bouncing ball, 45 yards out, with his back to goal, with no-one near him in support. That's generally how Andy Ryan operated so the fact that he scored nearly 30 goals last year albeit with support from Ian Russell, shows the measure of the man.

That was probably the poorest Alloa team we've seen for several years and yet after our initial 20 minute flurry where we looked half decent, they realised that we couldn't hit a coo's backside with a banjo so settled in to doing the basics, ie, defending properly and getting the ball forward into the box when they could.

We have NO STRIKERS worthy of the name, can't score up front and continue to make the same defensive errors week after week. We lost another goal from a corner and conceded a needless penalty by barging into an attacker who had lost control of the ball and was running out the park. With the notable exception of Scott Stewart we lack ability, effort or even football intelligence. The defensive errors are like watching an under14s game.

On a positive note we seem to have actually discovered a goalkeeper. His handling and distribution was good. No 'heart in mouth' moments every time the ball got played into the box and he pulled off 2 excellent saves (one high to his right and the penalty save).

3 wins in 12 league games playing in the ar5e end of Scottish football really is outrageous.
