AS Airdrie 2-3 St Mary's

Airdrie lost for the second time in the league this season going down 3-2 at home to St Mary’s. Ross Graham, Scott Graham & Andy Clark all came into the side from last week’s draw with Shawbridge.

 After just two minutes Airdrie gifted the visitors the opener as Edgar failed to clear and allowed the striker to poke the ball past Rowan, matters got worse for Airdrie after 12 minutes, A long throw in went unchallenged and left St Mary’s with a free header from six yards which angled away from Rowan. A miserable first half was compounded on 41 minutes as St Mary’s added a third. Second half saw an improvement as Airdrie finally began to press the game and pulled one back when Clark took a quick throw to sent Kenny Pardoe clear and he stuck the ball past the keeper. Airdrie gained some confidence from this but always had to be mindful of over stretching themselves at the back. Scott replaced Ross Graham with 30 minutes left and Clark had to come off with 20 minutes to go, Burton went to left back with Neil Pardoe pushed forward one and Shaw going up front, Almost immediately Pardoe could have got a second a cracking half volley touched over the bar by the impressive away keeper. Airdrie had all the possession at this point but needed the second goal to stand a chance. It finally came with seven minutes to go as Shaw turned his marker inside the box and fired a low drive across the keeper into the bottom corner. Cooper pushed up front as Airdrie pressed for an equalizer and was unlucky to see a headed effort go wide. The St Mary’s keeper again came to the rescue as he scrambled back across goal to block another goal bound header and finally in the last minute produced an unbelievable stop from Lindsay’s back post header, stooping low to claw away a certain equalizer. 

Too little too late in the end for Airdrie, The game was lost in those first 12 minutes, two poor errors giving us an uphill task although the second half effort probably merited a point but it was not to be. Clydebank United are next up- for Airdrie and we need a big performance to pick ourselves up from a disappointing start to the league campaign.
