Liverpool had 54% of the possession, Thirteen corner’s to Arsenal’s zero, a missed penalty, but only four shots on target compared to Arsenal’s seven. Arsenal lived on their luck for vast periods of the game. Van Persie Man of the Match said that Arsenal didn’t deserve to win the game, there was a big truth in that, but the team which score the most goals wins, that’s the rules.
Liverpool had failed to score even one goal, all three goals were scored by Arsenal, the Scousers couldn’t even score their ill gotten penalty won by Mr Cheaty Cheat Suarez, what a vile and odious player. I do hope he goes soon as he is an embarrassment to his club, if not the Premiership.
Route One
Arsenal conceded the midfield for long periods of the game, and the Liverpool attack cruised at will into the Gunners penalty area. Arsenal’s defence was all over the place but with Szczesny having the game of his life they couldn’t find the net. On any other day he would have been MoM, but that was reserved for the greatest forward in the EPL.
Because Arsenal’s midfield could not get a grip we didnt have to endure crab and triangle football, the only escape was the direct ball, route one to goal. The first goal, in reply to Koscielny own goal was a long diagonal ball from Rosicky to Sagna who crossed perfectly to RvP, who headed past Reina. One – one. It was a beauty.
I had predicted one- one, but due to Arteta’s injury there was 8 minutes of added time, I was fearing we wouldn’t hang on, instead Song ran down the midfield passed the ball over the centre of the Liverpool defence to the waiting RvP who didn’t bother to control the ball but leathered it in with one movement, another splendid goal. I make that his 25th in the EPL this season. There was then 6 minutes of mainly playing for the corner pin.
Three Reasons for Victory
This was not one of the best games Arsenal have ever played, probably one of the worst, but Arsenal were better than Liverpool for 3 main reasons. One was the keeper outplayed Reina, two that RvP scored twice as many goals as the Liverpool forwards, and three the precision passing of Song at the very end of the game. On the minus side was the anonymous performances of Walcott and Benayoun, it made me long for Arshavin, I am sure he could have created something in all that space.
Meanwhile Chelsea lost away at WBA, once again the mediocrity of the Premiership may comes to Arsenal’s aid. We must hope that AVB is not sacked, Liverpool are now out of it and hopefully Man U can destroy any remaining confidence Spurs have got.

But this sort of win brought me back to the days when we were actually winning things, grinding out results just to put more points towards the title.
I pray something big happens in the summer, starting with a bumper deal that keeps Van Persie at home.
Dont care if they have to sell 2 squad players just to finance his wages.

I'm just surprised at how confident I was that we'd get the 3 points. Haven't felt like that for a loooong time.
I remember being 3-1 down -i think- against Middlesboro once, we came back to win 5-3. I never thought we wouldn't win that match. Nice to get the confidence back for me. Never mind how much it'll help our dressing room for the run in!
Arsene Wenger/Arsenal has not been lucky to be in competition with below standard opposition. Under-preforming, yes, but not below standard
Whilst your comment is correct, unless your start singing the praises of our opposition when we win something, and this just does not happen and never has, your comment will be seen as your agenda of negativity towards Arsene Wenger.
Since the end of WW1, 1919, when the FA restarted its 4 tier football league, with Arsenal fc in the 1st div, there’s only ever been one club to have never been relegated from Div 1/ EPL.

The number of points required for 4th place is far lower than a few years ago.
Never have the EPL teams been so poor in Europe. All the stats show that the EPL top teams are not as good as a few years ago.

Points over a season change on an annual basis, as do the different teams chasing those points, my friend. Points can`t keep going up, higher and higher.
I said, in my opinion you are correct stating that the standard has fallen, but I don`t accept your usage of this fact as a reason to say Arsenal/Wenger`s have got lucky. And that, that is the reason we`re back in the top4. Wenger and his squad playing good football has got us back into the top4
If we can`t put our `Invincible ` squad back together, no matter what the cost, we can`t. End of.
If City beat United to the league this season, is that SAFs fault? Maybe it is from a United fans point of view, but I do not believe so.
I still say that Wenger is the best possible manager we could have. If you want to have a go at the 2nd best or the 3rd best manager we could have, that`s fine. I prefer the best chance. That`s all.
