As Shalke’s second goal went in I couldn’t get that Talking Heads number out of my head, it really should be the club song. For those who don’t know the words here is the first verse and chorus, but reading the lyrics can't beat listening to it. It really sums up the position Arsenal is now in.

I am sure Arsenal were surprised as the rest of us to find themselves 2-0 up after only 26 minutes. True they were two very good goals, but I doubt if Arsenal will find any team in the Premiership prepared to gift two goals in such a sloppy fashion as Schalke did, apart from themselves that is. At 2-0 up it was possible to believe the impossible, remember the old days when Arsenal went abroad and wiped the floor with any team that dared to beat them at home.
But only the wilfully blind would have failed to see Schalke’s comeback on its way, Arsenal could have three points, and ended up being lucky to finish with one. Yes we would all have settled for one point before the match started, but a two goal lead, but don’t forget this outfit throws away four goal leads with impunity. Yes Arsenal can still qualify, and probably will, but it will probably be in second place and an immediate tie against a team that will knock them out first go. We're on a road to nowhere, maybe the team is in a rollercoaster on that road, so it might seem quite exciting at times.
But as exciting as it is being on a rollercoaster the fact it is that it goes nowhere. Wenger finally allowed Theo to start a game, denying it has anything to do with his contract, that may or may not be true, but Theo seemed pretty grumpy at the end of the match. Directing questions on the issue back to the manager. Arteta, standing next to Theo, eyebrows nearly shot up in horror, except they were firmly glued on. At the moment Theo is the only striker Arsenal have who is scoring regularly, he will probably be sold. We're on a road to nowhere.
Yes it was a far better result than pundits, including this one, and come on be honest many Arsenal fans, ever expected. But if Arsenal give away as many chances as they did against Schalke against premiership teams they can expect a few more defeats. If only Theo had scored that final chance, he would have been a hero. Instead the question marks and debates still continue about him.

The Champions league is a sickening money driven festival of pointlessness as far as Arsenal are concerned, but the amazing thing I find is the number of Arsenal fans who are still genuinely enthralled by it. People on twitter saying 'Ooh, my hearts in my mouth' and 'Im pacing my living room' - 'Ive been sh*tting myself about this game all day' 'Please please hold on Arsenal...'
WHY??? its a group game. If it was the same stage in the league cup it would be a first leg away game with Shrewsbury. Who gives a F*CK. What do these people thinks is going happen? We cant beat Schalke but when we get Real Madrid in the semis then suddenly Giroud and Rosicky are going to raise their games and score a hat trick each?
The whole Champions league thing is B*LLOCKS

Wengers record in it adds to the pointlessness of it all. 16 Seasons in it, one final and one semifinal. Its utter pants All we do is get through group phase and then go out.
He has the worst record of all the senior clubs in it, ie those clubs in it on a regular basis

thats because everything we do is calculated with unerring precision to ensure that we get through the group stage and finish top 4. If we overshoot this calculation any one year we get rid of players, if we look like we arent going to do it at the half way stage of any one season, we buy players. The whole thing disgusts me and is the main reason why I wont spend any more money at Arsenal.

We miss out on FA Cup and League to qualify for CL, the team qualify for CL and then go out after group stage, but not before missing out on cups and league because everything put into winning CL, which never happens, then we are told we should be happy we never win anything because 4th is a trophy.

On the point of regarding the minor trophies as almost dismissive, I am in total agreement with you both.
I`m not aware of any member of the current playing squad having experienced winning a 1st team trophy, in England, so there must be a starting point to begin with.
Have always disliked Talking Heads, even though I`ve watched them live in full concert. Free tickets will make a man do strange things. So to make a point I`d suggest that the direction we`re been lead into, is a thought out direction and not some `road to nowhere` situation.
I believe the present strategy, is that our club owners do not want to invest any money whatsoever into Arsenal fc, indeed I believe they want the dollars/pounds going in the opposite direction.
`And good on them` says Ed and a few others on here. They own it, they paid for it. They should be able to take money earned by Arsenal fc and stuff it into their back pockets. This, Weedz believes, means NO FORESEEABLE SUCCESS. And a longer barren period.
So, IMO, our club is being/ has been asset striped of it`s best players, not as a strategy, pursuant, but by having a salary cap in place on the individual players contracts and calling it a self-sustainable model, the owners can then force players into profit making sales and hide behind the aforementioned business model. Arsene Wenger does not set the salary on individual players. He has to work within the parameters of the self-sustain model, that he agrees with, but is set by the CEO and the Board, who get that call from the owner.
I believe the present owners are waiting and hoping that the land-scape of English/ European football finances are about to change, due to the new FFP rules that are to be enforced from next season. And that these new rules will indeed bring the `sugar-daddy brigade` back to the rest of the pack. And bringing about a more level financial playing surface to play from.
Since the end of WW1, 1919, when the FA restarted its 4 tier football league, with Arsenal fc in the 1st div, thereโs only ever been one club to have never been relegated from Div 1/ EPL.

The sooner we stop @#$%& about in the C/League the better.
We are never going to do any good in it with the teams/squads we have now or in the future without change.
With more effort on league.
And fielding stronger sides in our own cups I'm sure we would have lifted one or two trophies in past seasons.

Guess I must admit that after his panicky buys of 5 players at 23:59:59 on August 31, 2011 and bargain buys this summer, Arsene Wenger is no more interested in the "Youth Project" but wiht only one obsession:
- to qualify for CL CUp and to win one CL CUp to complete hsi resume before he retires.
You can see that the way he is coaching the team to play Tiki Taka Crab Football since 2005 when Cesc took centre-stage is more suitable to playing against European teams ratehr than ENglish teams.
And why we have a 100% loss record against English teams in CL Cup.

Merl, if this was the case, Arsene would already be managing PSG.
The man turns down bigger and better offers from other clubs, regularly.
I`ve read he`s turned down both Real Madrid and PSG, in the last 2 or 3 seasons.
But no, our lack of success is totally down to the moronic, snake-oil salesman, we have for a manager.

There's 30 million reasons that the Bored Of Directors wants in on the CL. Well, what happens when Instant Karma gets them and the team finishes below 4th, or maybe at 10th? Will that mean more sell offs? Or raise ticket prices more to make up for profits lost. Oh, and lest we forget, AW does get a % of the profits in addition to his massive salary.

But the Club don't want that and I think the evidence of that is clear as day really.
If they did they would act even if it cost some money.
They don't want that.
No pressure needs to be brought to bear on those running and profitting their running of and Mr. Wenger's management of the Club. Period. And not just them really.
