The best of results or the worst of results?

Well Syd the cabby’s winning streak with the bookies has come to an end with a 0-0 draw, so not a good result for him. Simon68 came up with a 3-1 prediction and Syd and me 2-1. We were all wrong and the reason for that is that Arsenal lacked a striker of quality on the night.

It is said dogs grow to look like their master, and Moyes’s teams’ look just like him, a snappy pit bull. Meanwhile Wenger’s team, looking as urbane as their manager try to practice the fine arts in the midst of Everton’s well organised mayhem.  You can imagine them practising blind side forearm smashes and sneaky ankle taps. As one famous football correspondent would put it, “there is something of the cloven hoof about them”, if not a heavy whiff of sulphur.

But my intention is not to denigrate them, they worked hard for their result, nor can it be claimed they only came to defend, as they had almost as many shots on target as Arsenal, 6-5, and as many shots in total 10-10. Gibson was lucky not to be sent off, but I wouldn’t have counted on that changing the result.

All the neutrals loved the game, they would wouldn’t they, but it was an engrossing 0-0 draw, and it can’t be said that the Gunners didn’t fight hard in their own urbane way to win. The defence was solid, as was midfield, it was just that the two, possibly, nailed on chances were wasted. Maybe Podolski should have been on earlier as Walcott and Giroud were firing blanks.

The word on the street amongst Gooners (even the staff at my local chemist thought so) was it’s a good result, Everton are a hard team to play against , even Man Utd struggle to beat them these days, but they do score goals against them. It certainly isn’t the worst result, to have lost would have been far more damaging, and it still leaves everything to play for. However, Arsenal were the home team, and making up the lost points at home to Man U may prove to be a tall order. Spurs still have to play Chelsea and Man City, and who knows when both will drop more points.

Nonetheless it was a lost opportunity, three points could have given Spurs, Chelsea and Everton a clear message that they were out of it. Now it may well go down to the wire. Which doesn’t really matter as Arsenal have nothing better to do, and thus it is that Arsenal fans, including this one,  can go home happy with a draw at home. How expectations have fallen
