Burnley 0 Manchester United 2

The Clarets headed into a welcome international break with work to do, after Manchester United provided under-fire boss Jose Mourinho some welcome respite.

Romelu Lukaku's first half brace took the wind from the Clarets’ sails as they looked to replicate the energetic performance against Olympiakos in their midweek Europa League exit, which had led to manager Sean Dyche claiming the players had "regained their identity.

But they were second best against a slick United side that started well and deservedly took a stranglehold of the game before the break.

Burnley improved in the second half, which saw United reduced to 10 men following Marcus Rashford’s naïve red card, shortly after Joe Hart’s penalty save to deny Lukaku a hat-trick.

But United eventually ran out worthy winners, leaving the Clarets looking to reboot their season following the two-week break.

Sean Dyche made three changes to the side that lost at Fulham, with full backs Charlie Taylor and Phil Bardsley replacing Stephen Ward and Matt Lowton.

And following his impressive display in the Europa League against Olympiakos, there was a full Premier League debut for Dwight McNeil.

Ironically, the Rochdale-born teenager spent nine years with the Reds’ up until the age of 14.

And the 18-year-old proudly became the club’s first Academy recruit to start in the top flight since Joe Jakub in 1976.

Just watched the highlights on MotD, didn’t see much of Burnley as an attacking force until late on, Lukaku was man of the match by a mile, two goals and a menace all game. Think Bardsley was lucky not to see red along with Rashford and Mee was lucky not to walk for what looked like a handball. Not a Hart fan but he looked to be the best in a Burnley shirt.

Oh dear. Going to be a long long season
Lost our defensive capabilities. No spark in midfield and not putting the few chances created away.

Normally the international break is a bad thing and destroys our momentum. Hopefully this one give us the chance to circle the wagons and regroup.

Time to earn your wages Sean

No doubt about it they came out of the blocks faster but even in the first half there were promising periods reminiscent of last season. I don't understand why Aiden O'neill was permitted to disappear when yesterday we had no midfielders at all available on the bench. Wonderful though to see an 18 year old matching so many senior heads around him. I am afraid that signing a new contract might have gone to Ben Mee's head as I thought he was at fault for both goals. We need to start making and putting chances away. This break will prove a blessing. We sorely miss Grady and Defour among others. It would have been 4 or 5 without Joe Hart.

Too predictable. Moanrhinio did the same thing last year with Fallini - stopped us in our tracks. Everyone knows what's coming from us, and worse still, I wasn't sure I detected "minimum requirement, maximum effort" out there today.

Sean has now got the biggest challenge of his managerial career in front of him. Needs to light the fire and find a system that works.

Good to have the break to give him and the lads time to figure it out - they can do it - but it's going to be a relegation battle this season, be prepared.
