Robinho Bid to be Increased

The Robinho to Chelsea transfer story is not going away with reports appearing that Chelsea will now up their original £19.7M bid to just under £25M quid. Real Madrid are rumoured to want around 40M euros for the player which would leave the new Chelsea bid 10M short but it seems doubtful that we’ll go that high.

The deadline for submission of the Champions League players lists coincides with the end of the current transfer window which closes at midnight on 31^st August – some 2 ½ weeks away.  This leaves plenty of time for more shenanigans although as time goes on If Chelsea have a plan B (such as Quaresma) Real Madrid risk holding on to a player who has made it quite obvious he doesn’t want to stay and sees his future ·”…to become the best player in the world” at Chelsea. 

  

Spanish media reports claim Robinho is making quite a show of discontent with a general lack of enthusiasm for training and walking about with a constant long face. 

Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon put himself into a corner by revealing that he was prepared to involve Robinho as a make-weight in the Ronaldo deal causing great offence to the young Brazilian - with the Ronaldo deal fallen through (for this year anyway) Calderon left himself in an embarrassing position with one of his star players. 

To put his foot in it further, Calderon had made a great show of professing how wrong it is to prevent a player from leaving who wants to go, likening the situation to slavery - a controversial comment which was cringeworthingly backed up by his UEFA mate Sepp Blatter. 

Could he make even more of a pigs ear of it?  Well yes!  He could!  Calderon then authorised Robinho a new deal which only significantly stepped up after the first two yeas within a five year deal - when its quite obvious they will have to sell him next summer anyway to help raise the cash for Ronaldo!

Robinho would almost complete a phase 1 jigsaw for Scolari´s new Chelsea whilst Calderon will have to come up with something to appease the Real Madrid electorate who hold the key to his presidential position – the Van de Vaart signing may go some way to achieving that – but will it be enough?

Calderon has done enough to show himself up for all European football to see - and Chelsea stand to gain.
