Johnson deal imminent –but is it Chelsea, Liverpool or City?

Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie has stated to the media that a deal for England and ex-Chelsea defender Glen Johnson is about to go through – but what’s not clear is if his destination is Anfield or Stamford Bridge.

"Glen has had a fantastic season for us and I think he is the best right-back in the country at the moment.

"I've know Glen a long while, from my West Ham days. When I re-signed him (at Portsmouth) we talked things over."He said, 'If one of the big four come in with Champions League football, would you stand in my way?'"I told him I couldn't do that. Providing the deal is right for Portsmouth and Glen then we will look to try and do something in the right way.

"It is very hard to try and hold people back when they have a chance to play in the Champions League. I accept that."

GLEN JOHNSON

Earlier reports claimed that the battle for Johnson’s signature was between Chelsea and Liverpool – and just recently Manchester City.  Nevertheless, most internet transfer rumour outlets claim that Stamford Bridge is the player’s destination.

I’m not quite so convinced yet.  Johnson himself just a few days ago said that wherever he was going to it would not be to sit on the bench – therefore if Chelsea is his destination then the future of Bosingwa must be in question (or Johnson has been talked round).  Liverpool DO have an opening on that right side but have they sorted their finances already given that the re-financing of their RBS loan has not been officially confirmed yet?

Secondly, the fee itself seems to be on the high side.  When asked if the transfer was between £15million and £18million, Storrie replied:

"You may not be a million miles away from the mark."So it must be around the £12-13million mark.

"I wouldn't think it (the deal) would be too long,” added Storrie.

Also, it should be mentioned that Pompey still owe money to Liverpool re the Crouch transfer so this could favour the Reds...

chelsea..well they booted him out in the first place so i know wat id be saying to chelsea.

liverpool..for me this would be his best move.theres no reason for any player not to wanna go liverpool at the moment.they have simply been the best team in the league for a while now and it kills me to say it.
