Modric bid upped to £27m and Levy called “arrogant”

The inevitable, but going through the motions, protracted transfer of Luca Modric from Spurs to Chelsea went through further stages yesterday and today. Sky are reporting that we have upped to the bid from £22m to £27m for the midfielder whilst the press have quoted Modric as calling savvy Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, “arrogant”.
Arrogant
"I'm extremely disappointed by the way Levy talked to me,” said Modric.
“I had a cold welcome to his office and he talked to me arrogantly. He arrogantly let me know that he doesn't even want to know what I have to say.
"I don't know what are the reasons for his behaviour but it's his problem.
"That kind of approach only convinced me that I'm not wrong about my decision to leave the club."
Not worth the paper it’s not written on?
This get out clause that we keep hearing about now and then also got a mention.
"I reminded Levy of our gentleman's agreement from last summer in Dubrovnik, when I signed a new contract with Tottenham, that if an offer from a big club comes in we will sit down and talk about it and find the best solution for all of us.
"Back then he said if it happens we will sit down and talk. It was enough for me that it was not required to be put into the contract. Now Levy is turning around and he doesn't even want to talk about it.
Stay and rot if necessary
"And he told me in an indiscreet manner that there's no way he will let me go.
"He threatened me that if I don't accept his and the club's opinion, then he will send me to the bench or the stands.
"He even talked about sending me to the second team.
"This threat just convinced me that I made the right decision to leave Tottenham - If I have to, I will hand in a transfer request.”
The lure of the pots
“I ask them to understand my situation. I told him I want to go and the reason is my ambition to play for a club which is challenging for the English title and the European championship.
"I will be 26 soon and I'm convinced it is right for me to take my chance in my career.
“Move on! Nothing to see here!”
After the meeting however, Levy painted a different picture of what was said at the meeting claiming that “the player 'understood' the situation and that all was well.”
Saga
So, the saga drags on. Redknapp insisted that an offer of £22m was “a joke”…no doubt today’s increased offer will be met with similar scorn even though Spurs originally paid £15m for Modric.
It looks like a week or so more of this, a 3rd offer or around £32m and we should have a done deal.

So just because we paid £15 mill for him ( it was £16.5 actually) Spurs should let Chelsea pay what they think he is worth and spurs should be greatful
Sorry mate but you wont get him for anything less than £40mill then it still might not be enough
You are dealing with Levy and you do so at your peril.
Modric or his agent are full of S+++ about a get out clause, Levy is the biggest hard nosed buisiness man you could ever wish to meet

27million is a joke, considering Henderson went for over 20, Carrol went for 35+ add ons, and Tevez is about to go for close to 40. Torres cost you lot 50, and United payed 24 for Ashley Young. Based on these prices, Modric should be going for over £35 million.

If by some turn around Levy lets Modric go, he won't allow him to go to another Premiership team. I don't think the deal is innevitable in the slightest, especially for £32M.

It's very interesting to see how the arrogance and lack of respect that the owners of chelsea display, with their constant tapping up, backhanders and flouting of the rules, filters through and engulfs their fans. What's worse; you can't even see it. Chelsea FC stand for everything that is bad in the game today. You held more credit when you were @#$%&.Congratulations.

Modric will prob get sold, but not to chelsea. Chelsea have over stepped the mark now. They were told not to bid further or to make bids and terms public. They have and that has already p*ssed levy off. Even if modric was to put in a transfer request spurs can reject it. Realistically modric could be stuck in the reserves for spurs for 4 years. Chelsea are an arrogant club who use dirty tricks and dirty money to buy there success and position. They were let off lightly in previous tapping up cases. Its about time they got there just deserves.

Gotta love the blind arrogance of you chavs. "£32m and we should have a done deal"? When all's said and done, even if there is some kind of gentlemen's agreement, Modders and his advisers need to realise that a) No offer has been forthcoming from what in our opinion is a 'bigger' club; and b) the offer made by Chelsea is not "a good deal for Tottenham". Matter closed!

I want the rat gone but not to you and the joke amount of a bid just confirms that g.e wont be going to the greyhound track team to play wfor chelsea whose club legends are kerry dixon, david lee, david speedie, kevin hitchcock, jomm harley, ken monkou and many many more! Those players are the real chelsea.

Excellent news if it's true, more evidence of tapping up, as they've been told that Modric isn't for sale, ooh.. how that team of chav's are going to pay for this. What do they think bidding 27 million is going to do?, it's laughable typical underhand tactic, but you're playing with heap big fire!

What's Modric on about? Gentleman's agreement? From what he's said, Levy honoured the terms of that agreement. Whether Chelsea are a bigger club or not is a matter of opinion but the opinion that counts is Levy's and he considers Chelsea to be one of Tottenham's main direct competition and by that logic not bigger. Also, they did sit down and talk about it. Levy said no. Finally, is this offer best for all parties as was discussed in this so-called agreement? No it isn't. I imagine a ridiculously inflated offer would only make it best for Tottenham. Double the 27 mill and then, yes, it would be best for both parties. Problem now is, the way Chelsea have acted and with what Levy has publically said, a deal seems unlikely to me.

chelsea will get there man.. they always do.. and its not right to put a player like that on the bench.. hes a cracking player and Tottenham your being bitter because he wants to go to a better club and get gold medals.. not no runner up 6th place @#$%&... and i dont know how you can call your selfs just as good a chelsea.. your not even close.. let the guy go.. 27 mil is just right.. hes not world class... theres better players then him but he is good soo 27 mil is right.

As a Chelsea fan of 55+ years (1) Spurs are not a million miles away from where we are, therefore should show a little (not too much) respect. (2) Get gold medals (eh?) WE ARE TALKING ABOUT FOOTBALL NOT THE 100M SPRINT (3) when did Spurs finish 6th? (4) If he aint Worldclass why do we all wnat him (top 4 + a couple from abroad), maybe we should ALL stop chasing him based on your footballing genious (5) Look at what we paid for a striker who was terrible for 18months prior to signing (50m) and has got worse, look at what every other player has gone for (Henderson, Young etc etc etc). Luka is worth 35m+, but Levy (who I have a lot of respect for for his stand) will want 40+ - although he aint coming to us! Who is better that has played in the prem ands is available, who plays Modric role?

Chelsea have almost guaranteed Modric will be sold at some point, but let's wait and see - it's not like Spurs need the money and they have far greater priorities in the transfer market. If Modric refuses to buckle down and play for Spurs Levy's preference is now understood to be to loan him out to a (non English) Champions League team until January or next summer's window and use the time to broker a deal outside of the UK. He has c.5yrs remaining on his contract so to wait is going to have little impact on his value - which will be far in excess of what's been offered as it needs to contain a compensatory element based on the remaining duration.
And what is all this press nonsense re. Modric being Essien's replacement - completely different sorts of players. Not sure why Chelsea feel they need Modric?
