Genk 1-1 Chelsea: Poor Result, Poor Performance

Ewood Park is not a good place to go with Chelsea in their current run of form. Still smarting from their horror show against Goonerville last Saturday, the Blues travelled to Belgium to take on the perceived 'weakest' team in the Group, Genk.

Our 'One England Captain' JT, was left on the bench and AvBs decision may have had something to do with the public announcement made yesterday by the local constabulary that they WILL be investigating JT and the claims of racial abuse.

Super Frank was also on the bench and there was no Didier Drogba as he has undergone an operation to remove pins and screws from his broken arm.

Despite the 5-0 win a couple of weeks ago, Chelsea were always going to face a different Genk. For a start their fans in the sold out stadium were noisy, vociferous and were armed with those annoying 'clappers.'

Kevin De Bruyne wanted to prove a point and he did have a hand in Genk's equaliser which came from a cross on Chelsea's right.

Genk's coach Mario Been did his homework, identifying Bosingwa as the weakest link in a weak Chelsea defence.

Time and time again Bosingwa went AWOL and his absence from his defensive duties, cost Chelsea dear, despite Chelsea creating numerous chances which went wasted.

Again I will say. Jose Bosingwa maybe a full-back (an attacking full-back at that) but the man simply cannot defend.

There were a couple of occasions last night where he lost possession quite easily but relied on others to cover for him as he jogged back into position.

There was one incident where Bosingwa lost the ball, Bosingwa stopped playing because he thought the ball was going out of play and in a split second De Bruyne was off leaving Bosingwa trailing in his wake.

Chelsea should have been at least 2-0 up at half-time. Ramires gave Chelsea the lead after picking up the ball in midfield, he played a lovely one-two with Torres before sweeping the ball home from a tight angle.

Chelsea were awarded a penalty when Buffel was adjudged to have handled a Malouda cross and very surprisingly up stepped David Luiz to take the spot-kick.

Unfortunately for Sideshow Bob his fiercely hit penalty was well saved by Koteles diving full stretch low to his right.

Why Luiz was allowed to take the penalty was a surprise and mystery to everyone!!!

AvB explained about the Luiz choice of penalty-taker. He said, "We had David and Anelka. We always assign two players for penalty kicks.

"It's something we practice and all our penalty takers at the moment have missed one, from David to Nico to Lamps so in that sense we have to gain efficiency because all of them are extremely good penalty takers.

"On the pitch between Nico and David had to decidem and the goalkeeper made a save."

In between the goal and the missed penalty, Meireles struck a wonderful shot which hit the angle of the crossbar and the post.

Warnings of a Genk equaliser went unheeded YET AGAIN as Genk started off the 2nd half with purpose. Chelsea were reeling under pressure and Cech was fortunate that a close range shot hit his chest and went out for a corner.

Super Frank came on as a second-half substitute and if you want proof that Chelsea are 'suffering' at the moment, Super Frank missed a sitter from two yards out from a Danny Sturridge shot, which, had it gone in would have given Chelsea a huge morale boosting win.

Chelsea's 'suffering' continued seconds from time as Malouda clipped the ball over Koteles from a tight angle only to see his effort cleared off the line, the ball hitting another defender before going away for a corner.
