Moyes Sees Bigger Picture

Moyes upbeat after derby defeat..

David Moyes is looking at the bigger picture as he moves on from Everton's derby defeat.

The manager is taking positives in a number of areas, including the Blues' rejuvenated form in 2010 and players returning from injury.

He was also keen to point out that the quality of his Everton squad is very much on a par with Liverpool - who were mooted as title contenders at the start of the season.

"It's not hard to see the bigger picture," Moyes explained after the 1-0 defeat to the Anfield outfit. "I thought the players played well and we've lost to a set piece.

"There's very little difference between us and Liverpool in terms of what's being shown on the field just now."

Moyes was unfazed by the physicality of Saturday's local derby, even though Steven Pienaar and Sotirios Kyrgiakos were sent off and Marouane Fellaini was carried off injured.

He also reflected on his side's struggles to break down Liverpool's defence after the Reds went down to 10 men.

"It was the usual derby, wasn't it?" said Moyes. "It was a good old fashioned game with lots of tackles and both sets of players showed how much it meant to them.

"You need special players at the top end of the pitch and most of the top teams have that. We lacked that today. We kept the ball and did the right things, and when it went to 11 v 10 we showed that there isn't a big gap between Liverpool and Everton. It was a set piece that changed the game."
