EVERTON 5 V HULL CITY 1

EVERTON PUT IN A MASTER CLASS PERFORMANCE AGAINST A POOR HULL CITY SIDE YESTERDAY AT GOODISON PARK,SOME PEOPLE LABELLING IT "CHAMPAGNE FOOTBALL"...

'CHAMPAGNE FOOTBALL'??...It certainly was at times yesterday as Everton put a relegation threatened Hull City side to the sword.

At the start of the day,we wondered how we were going to react after 2 defeats against Tottenham and Sporting Lisbon,but David Moyes is not going to let this season just fall away to mid table mediocrity,he has said he is going to try and win every game between now and the end of the season and see were that takes us,on this kind of form (6 wins out of 8),we could still have a say in the race for a European place.

As soon as we got a foothold in the game yesterday,it was all Everton and it was that little Spanish magician Mikel Arteta pulling all the strings in midfield who put in a masterclass performance only denied a hat trick by an own goal by Richard Garcia.

The first came after 16 mins,when a delightful cross by the Yak found Arteta at the back post and he finished in style to put the blues ahead,it felt even at that stage of how many we could get.

Yakubu who hit the post early on and Anichebe on the right were causing problems with there strength and power and with Arteta and Pienaar playing some lovely controlled football,Everton were head and shoulders above Hull City.

The Yak then had a chance from the penalty spot to double the advantage,but he casually hit it straight at Myhill and that then spurred Hull on and they equalised against the run of play when Tom Cairney picked up the ball on the corner of the box to lash it past Howard,we couldnt believe it!!

It didnt take long for parity to be restored and it was that man Arteta again,Osman who went off not long after,layed the ball out to Anichebe who was in acres of space he ran towards the box and laid it into Pienaar who delgithfully back-heeled it to Arteta who passed the ball into the net from 12 yrds!! A wonderful goal by Everton.

The blues came out in the 2nd half in the same vein,basically taking the 'mick' out of Hull City with some great passing movement,Baines and the excellent Pienaar and Arteta were running the show on the left hand side and it was Arteta again who was involved in the 3rd goal,he found himself in space from a corner and his delightful chip towards goal was headed into his own net by Garcia.

We were totally dominant now,with the likes of Heitenga bombing forward hunting for a goal,he's slowly becoming a cult hero at Goodison with his powerhouse displays of late and with the young Rodwell,who had come on for Osman in the first half,also looking good in midfield,Everton are putting together a really useful looking football side.

It was'nt until the 81st minute when we got our 4th goal of the game,when the American Landon Donovan who came on moments earlier for Anichebe,found himself free in the box from Baines's cross and he lashed it home,to score on what could be his final game at Goodison Park,just what everyone wanted as the crowd roared USA USA!!

Donovan then turned provider himself,when he found himself in space again,he unselfishly pulled it back to Rodwell who finished in style to cap a fantastic display by Everton,it was just what the doctor had ordered and maybe David Moyes is right in saying we are to give it a right go between now and the end of the season and why not??
