Fulham Sign more players
June 14 2008
This week Fulham have announced more new signings to bolster the squad. After letting go a number of players after the dramatic finale to the 2007-08, Roy Hodgson has signed two goalkeepers and now added Zoltan Gera from West Bromwich Albion and also Andranik Teymourian from Bolton.
Gera normally plays as an attacking midfielder, and also presents Roy with another striking option as he can play up front as well. Andranik is another midfielder , but usually plays in a holding or defensive role. These additions to our midfield are welcome as it takes the pressure off the likes of Murphy, Bullard and Andreasen. It also adds a bit more competition for these positions which is only a good thing, as everyone will have to be firing on all cylinders to secure a regular place in the starting line up.
This brings the tally to four signings so far, with David Stockdale and Mark Schwarzer both competing for the regular spot between the sticks. Roy seems to be building support for each area of the team bit by bit. Fulham can now feel that its' midfield has a bit more depth than last season, and the ever changing goalie place will now probably have Mark Shwarzer in the starting line up with Stockdale looking to impress in training and the reserves team before he is likely to bump one of the older pairs of hands in to permanent retirement!
Roy did well with securing Gera as he was a free transfer, enjoying interest from other clubs. He obviously feels that WBA don't have much chance in staying up (which is encouraging for us) and wants to persue his career at a club that he feels will develop him as a player and one which has shown signs of great improvement in the final third of the season. Let's hope he will add a dimension in the midfield to make our attacks stronger.
Also on another free transfer (Good Work Roy!) is Andranik. This is another example of Roy making good use of our limited funds, saving his budget for a super star striker (we hope) and some more depth and strength in the defence department. He is closely watching Euro 2008, and with any luck, will find us a few more players to ensure next season isn't as traumatic and nail-biting as the last.pqs: qs:
