Beckford bids

Hot on the heels of Fabian Delphs transfer to Aston Villa, we understand the club has received what are described as 'Substantial Offers' for striker, Jermaine Beckford. West Brom and Wolves are believed to be the clubs involved.
Beckford was originally transfer listed at the end of last season having failed to agree terms on an extended contract. With just 12 months remaining of his exisiting deal, the club made a stance to avoid him leaving on a 'Bosman' however he was removed from the transfer list in Pre-season with manager, Simon Grayson declaring his contribution as critical.
As late as yesterday, Chairman, Ken Bates revealled he would be sitting down with Beckford and his agent to discuss the contract issue once again stating he he thought the talks would go well.
This latest twist comes just three days before Leeds kick off the new season against Exeter and if Beckford does go, it will leave the Leeds fans frustrated unless a quality replacement arrives almost immediately.
The bids for Beckford are believed to be in excess of £2m

The crux of the matter is that we need Becks for a promotion bid, and promotion is worth more than £2m. Therefore, it is better to keep him and risk that he goes for nothing next season, if this means a better chance of promotion, which it does.
