United thrash Sociedad and march towards Europa League last

Manchester United produced a sensational Europa League performance to thrash Real Sociedad 4-0 in Turin, with Bruno Fernandes, Daniel James and Fred all in scintillating form.
Following a recent wobble in form, United returned to winning ways in emphatic style as they thumped Sociedad with a mouth-watering display of attacking football.
The game was played at the home of Juventis; the neutral venue in Italy used due to coronavirus-related restrictions on arrivals into Spain.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were in fine form against a side competing towards the top end of La Liga this season.
Fernandes seized on some tentative defending to break the deadlock, while United's talisman added a second after the interval, showing stunning technique with his finish, as the Video Assistant Referee flagged that he was in an onside position when the pass was made.
Brazilian midfield man Fred then split open the Sociedad defence with a stunning through ball which Marcus Rashford drilled home from the left-hand side of the field; while Daniel James - who had seen an earlier effort ruled out for offside - capped an impressive performance with a late goal.
United could even give a short cameo to Amad Diallo from the bench, while there was also second-half substitute appearances from Juan Mata Garcia, Nemanja Matic and Anthony Martial.
Against West Brom last time out, United had huge amounts of pressure but struggled to break down a Baggies side who set-up with a compact, tight and disciplined defensive performance. United were a totally different prospect in Turin - carving Sociedad open again and again and looking worthy of their tags as slight tournament favourites.
The emphatic nature of this victory should give Solskjaer some freedom to heavily rotate his starting XI for the second-leg amid a hectic, Covid-impacted footballing schedule. Next up for United - before the repeat with Sociedad - is an emotional return to Old Trafford for ex-skipper Steve Bruce, as Newcastle United and the Red Devils renew their Premier League rivalries.
