Redknapp: "I Would Love To See Joe Get The Job"

Harry Redknapp has announced that he almost became manager of Newcastle United when Sam Allardyce left the club in January of this year and agreed to the Spurs job when Juande Ramos was sacked in October as he believed it would be his last chance to manage a big club.

He said of the chance to manager Newcastle;

"I was absolutely nailed on to go at one time; I had really made up my mind to go. On the Friday night I was going to go. I went out with my wife and Frank Lampard Senior and his wife Pat for dinner, and I sat down and we had a chat. I just decided I was happy where I was at the time.

It was just a big upheaval at that stage of my life - living up north and moving away. There were lots of factors, but personal factors more than football.

As far as football went you couldn't knock being manager of Newcastle because it's a fantastic club and a great challenge for anybody."

Talking about taking the Spurs job he said;

"When the Spurs job came, I thought 'I've turned it down once' and had heard people say I didn't want to take a challenge on and didn't want to manage a big club.

That irritates you because I've always taken on challenges at struggling clubs. I thought, 'Well, this is my last chance to manage a big club', so I had to take it.

I have always taken challenges on. Who else would be stupid enough to leave Portsmouth for Southampton and then go back again?"

Redknapp also told of his surprise that Joe Kinnear was appointed as interim manager at Newcastle after Kevin Keegan's departure, he added;

"At the time I was surprised when he got the job, everybody was surprised. But Joe has proved what you can do if you know what you are doing.

He has gone in there with a bit of common sense, got on with the job and he's turned it around. They have got good players and I would love to see Joe get the job permanently."

He practically already has the job. He's contracted until the end of the season. If that's not having the job what is?

harry is a big fat cheating backhanding panhandling liar who would still not be welcome as kitman in my eyes.

and our chairman at the time was chris mort, who said the club spoke to harry but chose not to pursue their interest, so whatever decision harry thinks he made about not coming to newcastle in january had already been made for him. the muppet.

i'm not a big fan like
