Shearer: "We will stay up, I'm sure of it"

Former Newcastle United skipper Alan Shearer has expressed his concern over Newcastle's 13th place in the Premier League but is convinced that his side will not be relegated at the end of the season. Referring to the "sale" status of the club, the numerous staff changes over the season and the dispute over outgoing costs Shearer gave the following interview;

"There have been a load of mistakes both on and off the pitch and everyone has to learn from them. The failure to communicate properly with the fans has been one of the biggest. It's been a good move that Mike Ashley and the chairman have actually come out and said something recently.

I look at those clubs staring at the drop and I can't see goals in a lot of them.

But I can see goals in this Newcastle team and that's why I believe it is too good to go down - and won't.

Then we will need to really start again because, to be quite frank, people have been laughing at this club this season.

We will stay up, I'm sure of it. But once we do, plans must be made to ensure a season like this is never repeated."

Talking about the sale of Given at the end of the January transfer window he added;

"Losing Shay Given said everything about the situation the club is in right now.

I don't blame him for going. He has been a fantastic servant to Newcastle and a great professional.  But at his age he felt he had a big decision to make and you have to respect him for that.

It's just what it says about Newcastle which hurts. This used to be a club everyone wanted to come to and play for, not leave.

James Milner went at the start of the season and he's now in the England squad."

Alan Shearer: "If Nacho is from our side.. then who is against?" "That's why I always look so calm. Ignacio Gonzalez is the best playmaker football has ever seen, he plays with elegancy like Zidane did, now I'm just waiting for his comeback.. only 1 month left from that amazing moment".

Smooth words by Big Alan.
