Bolton v Newcastle - Player Ratings
By Wasim
March 1 2009
Jonas Gutierrez was judged Man Of The Match for his performance against Everton on the weekend by Tyne-Talk's resident player rater Wasim4nufc. Read on to see how the rest of the team faired......
Player ratings vs Bolton
Steve Harper (6) - His kicking was poor, while he also looked shaky at times. Not at good afternoon for him.
Steven Taylor (6) - Not the best game for him today.I sincerely wish Habib Beye would come back soon, we really miss him.
Fabricio Coloccini (7) - I thought he had a good game. Almost earned us a penalty when venturing forward, while he was calm and composed in defence.
Sebastien Bassong (6.5) - He initially struggled to mark Davies, and was nearly at fault for giving a penalty away, but he grew in confidence as the game went on. He needs to stop holding strikers as much as he does.
Jose Enrique (6) - A quiet game from Enrique today. He linked up nicely with Gutierrez particularly in the 2nd half, although the goal to come from his side, so he won't be pleased with that.
Peter Lovenkrands (6.5) - There were some encouraging runs from him, when he beat his man easily, and he almost grabbed an equaliser with a stunnning overhead kick, but he still lacked the quality we needed sometimes.
Ryan Taylor (6) - Some good set pieces at times, but did an average job in midfield. Had some good moments, where his crossing was causing problems, but he did not perhaps control things in midfield as much as we needed him to.
Nicky Butt (6.5) - Went off injured, but was perhaps not calm enough for us in midfield. Got caught in a scuffle with Matt Taylor, and should have kept his head more, because thats what Bolton do, they get physical. Had some good moments too though.
Jonas Gutierrez (7.5) - He was our biggest threat on attack. Looked sharp and dangerous, although that final ball was missing at times. His got a great engine, and everything good came through him.Unlucky to be on the losing side.

Obafemi Martins (6) - Still lacking in match sharpness, but his pace brought an added dimension to our game, I only wish we tried using him more. Will be glad to have played 80 minutes though.
Shola Ameobi (5.5) - He held the ball up well, but that was about all he did well in the game. A real liability and when fighting a relegation battle, his not what we need up front.
Substitutes
Geremi (6.5) - Did do too badly when coming on, but I'd still have brought Smith on though.
Mark Viduka (N/A) - Wasn't on long enough to rate.
Positives
* Martins back in the starting eleven.
Negatives
* Points lost to a team we could have leap frogged had we won.
* We have Man Utd, Chelsea, and Arsenal to play soon, so we missed an opportunity to win today and try and have some breathing space.
* Nicky Butt's injury.

Coloccini? He was completely responsible for the goal. I'm starting to wonder if we didn't grossly overpay for this guy...
Absolutely not. Nicky Butt was the only POS that was responsible for that goal. I had to DVR the game to watch after a crappy day at work. I watched that goal upwards of 10 times. I have 3 boys that play soccer and I coach them all. The one thing I don't tolerate is not getting back on D. I brought them all down to look at this over and over. Look at the highlight again. Jose Enrique comes off his man to pick up Butt's man, who Butt lets go in the first place. Butt candy asses it back so that Jose now has to come and cover his original man. Bassong has to give back up to Jose and there is Nicky lolly gagging it back as Gardner out paces him into space. Nicky made two mistakes on this play and Jose and Seb tried to cover for him. Colo was covering his man. If I didn't know any better I'd say Nicky is shaving points. He's a disgrace. Never mind the hissy fit that got him the card or the upteen passes to nobody. Jonas work rate is great but he can't finish and what the hell are we leaving Shola out there for!!!! You bring Viduka in for Shola and he can set up Martins. How hard is this Chris. Please pull your head out of your @#$%&!!! This team shouldn't go down but the more I watch them the more they @#$%& me off. If I was a Yankee fan i could root for one of the big four, but no, I have to be from Chicago, I have to root for an underachiever. Wait til next year is my credo. Except the Cubs never go down. Boro beat the Rats, this isn't looking good. To top it off my brother likes the Spuds. I'm getting as pessimistic as Toonbart
My apologies, Rant off

Listen people. Coloccini is totally overrated. He is slow, period.
This from a guy who won't shut up about a third rate wanna be, hasn't done anything yet, nobody. Coloccini does play for a country that is considered pretty good....
