The biggest hint that Alan Shearer is in line take the managerial position at Newcastle United on a full time basis has come in forms of reports that once in post he will place a £15m price tag on defender Sebastien Bassong and sign him up on a bigger and better contract, upping his wages from the £5000 a week he currently earns.
Bassong, who was rated by many as Newcastle's player of the season has caught the eye of several Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
The 22 year old, currently on International duty with Cameroon is one of a few players reported to have spoken out in advance of Newcastle's relegation with his intentions to leave the club this summer if the seasons outcome to not satisfactory, however Shearer is confident that he will either stay or the club will not sell for less that £15m.
Shearer, despite having arranged his future at the club is due for pre-arranged talks with Bassong's representatives in the coming weeks.

By the way, its good to be on the forum! I tried registering on the toontastic board but they kept denying my account, yet I am a huge Newcastle fan and always will be.

I doubt Arsenal will pay that much, leaving the Spuds, Villa and Citeh....
It seems that at the end of every season he is being linked with a move away from United. Yet when it doesn't happen he still goes out and performs for the team. I dont think its a given that if a player says he want to leave the club must sell him.
Bassong is on next to nothing in terms of wages so we are under absolutely no pressure to sell him unlike player like Martins and Jonas.
Shearer is playing it smart and this seems like a win-win situation for us.
