Lovenkrands Signs 3 Year Deal
By Tyne-Talk
September 1 2009
Peter Lovenkrands has signed a 3 year deal with Newcastle United despite being released at the end of last season. The 29 year old scored 3 goals in 12 games in his 4 months at Newcastle before becoming a free agent. He is now expected to make his debut against Cardiff City on September 13th 2009.
Prior to re-signing for Newcastle Lovenkrands turned down a number of Bundesliga sides and made it clear he wished to remain in the North East.
The news will come as a relief to caretaker manager Chris Hughton who was desperate to bring in at least 2/3 players before the transfer window shut.

I'm a lot more excited than if we'd signed nobody.

its good news, but why did this guy go so long without getting any sort of a deal elsewehere this summer? he was sacked at xmas, and passed over by nufc at the end of his initial loan...
is he a bit of a d1ck or sumat?

i think that he wanted to come back to NUFC but had to wait on a premiership offer which is fair enough. I bet he didn't get any multi year offers in the PL so came to us....

hardly a ringing endorsement then. did anyone see the comments attributed to the brum manager? he seemed to think pete was a few weeks away from being fit. if he was in our plans, and out of work, why not get him in for training during the summer with the lads?
bah, he's here now, lets hope he can rip this league up, we all know he's good enough

He has been quoted tonight saying he wanted to remain in the NE for family reasons as well

His wife wanted to come back to the North of England or Scotland after his contract was up (cancelled?) in Germany.
I am surprised no-one else picked him up but happy he has signed on with us. Adds pace up front and can play wide too.
We are still short of bodies, would have like us to pick up another defender and striker - just to give us some other options. But we still may get some other loanees in.

Apparently Birmingham would have signed him, but because their player budget was used up, the manager wanted him to train with them so that he could hopefully persuade the board to make the funds available to offer him a contract, plus he was also waiting for the new owners to complete their takeover of the club. So anyways, because he wasn't given any guarantee's from them that they would offer him a contract, he's come here instead. Its fair enough as they are a premiership club.
I'm glad we've got him signed now though, will provide another good option out wide and up front.

he gives us something that we definitly lack in terms of pace and a direct option behind the back four. he is a threat but not a great actual footballer.

That makes a lot of sense, Wasim. Also makes sense that Brum would claim he's out of shape-which is hard to believe if he was training during the Summer with Rangers, as multiple sources stated. Just a CYA statement to the fans as to why he wasn't signed.
