Newcastle United are on the verge of signing Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood in a 3 month loan deal. The 30 year old will join Shola Ameobi and Andy Carroll as an experienced striker and is set to make his debut at the weekend against Ipswich Town. Caretaker manager Chris Hughton has explained the signing, stating that he needed a different type of striker to compliment those he already has.
Harewood is a proven goal-scorer at Championship level, with 80 goals in 200 games with previous clubs.
Hughton told the Official website nufc.co.uk;
"We are still waiting for finalisation and paperwork to be completed. But we have an agreement to bring him in and we're very much hoping the deal goes through before the weekend.
What we were desperate to do was bring in a different type of striker to what we already have here in Andy Carroll and Shola Ameobi and Nile Ranger, who has done ever so well for us.
He will give us experience and power and pace and of course this moment for him it's also an exciting time and a big challenge for him."
The move comes after Hughton was quoted saying that Newcastle need to score more goals to remain at the top end of the table.

I think we need defenders more, but reckon the lad will do well in this division, a few people have said he is lazy but when I have seen him in the premiership he always looked a hard worker
I am not saying we don't need forwards but defence is needed as well, we still have Ranger, Lovernkrands and Carroll fit, plus then we can play one forward and have Nolan playing off them.
