Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Newcastle Utd v QPR

By Tyne-Talk
September 30 2009

Newcastle United host Queens Park Rangers in tonight's 7.45pm Kick Off on the back of 4 wins in 6 games, whilst QPR travel on the back of 4 wins in 6 game. Both sides come into the game from strong wins at the weekend with Newcastle taking a 4-0 win away from Portman Road and QPR winning 5-2 on home ground against Barnsley.

Jonas Gutierrez returns from a hamstring injury, Geremi returns from illness and Danny Guthrie returns from suspension as Newcastle look to go 5 points clear at the top of the table. Absent from the squad is Fabricio Coloccini who is struggling with a groin injury are are Shola Ameobi (foot) and Joey Barton (ankle), whilst Ryan Taylor (calf) and Danny Simpson (ankle) are both doubts.

For QPR, Fritz Hall, despite returning to training, is unlikely to feature; neither are Matt Connolly (glandular fever), Angelo Balanta (hamstring) or Gareth Ainsworth (groin).

Both teams go into the game with 7 goals a-piece from the last 2 league games and defenders Steven Taylor and Damion Stewart are both set for their 150th starts for club and league respectively.

I don't know but it's so frustrating. After that that great win against Ipswitch I thought they'd really be up for this.

Meh.

I'll take the point but losing 2 at SJP is unacceptable, given our wage bill compared to the rest of this league.

I hate mid-week fixtures. So glad we had the extra day off with the Wednesday game, but this is the 4th straight midweek game we've failed to impress. 4-3 with Huddersfield, 1-2 to Blackpool, and 0-2 to Petersborough.

I suppose a point isn't an awful result after going down so early, but a missed penalty is unacceptable. We're still a full result ahead of Brom and 2 games clear of the Playoff spots.

With the results going our way yesterday a point isn't the worst result, especially as QPR are a good side

After the way we played I will take a point. Guthrie was very poor but everyone can have an off game. Think the game showed that Butt is well and truely finished or at least you cant play him and Smith in the same team.

Too many balls lumped up to young lads up front, Ranger is tall but use his pace a bit more.

I will get shot down a bit here but Jonas didnt want to be on the pitch. He did ok when he came on and really is too good for the league but he didnt want to cross the half way line. I understand he has just come back from injury but he seemed to have both eyes on the Argy matches. They dont pay his 60k/week wages.

You know, I watched an old ManUre game over the weekend-away to QPR in December of 94, actually-and Nicky Butt's final ball was awful in that game...it's just not a skill he's ever had.

I've made my opinion of Jonas known, so all I'll say is that I'm not real surprised by your take, Biffins.

Dont get me wrong mate, Im not a Jonas hater. More frustrated. If he is fit he should play as he scares the sh17e out of defenders in this league. I remember when we had Robert on the left and there were all these people around where i sat moaning and p155ing on about Ginola was better and he never tracks back (like Ginola ever did) but that wasnt his point. When he played two players were always on him. In my eyes that meant their right back and winger wasnt attacking us. Its the same with Jonas but less end product from him. But he will set up more than he scores with the added bonus that he tracks back and plays well with enrique.

Plus when he plays we will punt the ball up less to the front men.
