FA CUP Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Newcastle Utd v Plymouth

By Tyne-Talk
January 12 2010

Tomorrow night Newcastle United host their 3rd round replay against Plymouth Argyle in one of the last two deciding games, following tonight's bigger fixture list. With neither team scoring in the original tie both clubs will be setting their sights on goals as they try to reach the fourth round game against West Bromwich Albion away from home.

For Newcastle United Chris Hughton continues to be without the injured Joey Barton, whilst Alan Smith is due to return from an eye injury and could feature. Hughton has hinted that he may play Kevin Nolan giving him some match time ahead of their next league game against West Brom.

Ben Tozer, Tim Krul, Nile Ranger, Ryan Donaldson and Tamas Kadar will all be pushing for a place in the team as Hughton is given an opportunity to see what his youngsters can do.

Plymouth Argyle manager Paul Marnier will be without striker Jamie Mackie who is suffering with sickness, Jim Patterson (hamstring) and Yala Bolasie who is cup tied, whilst defender Kari Arnason remains a doubt through injury.

Newcastle United have not conceded a goal in their last 4 games at St James' Park and have not lost in 13 at home. Plymouth have drawn 1 and won 2 of their last three games in all competitions following 5 straight defeats where they failed to hit the back of the net.

Fact: If Newcastle United go through to the fourth round it will be the fourth time in six seasons that Plymouth have been knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round.

Same as away match, I want us to win. We do not want to be dumped out of the FA Cup by lowly Plymouth.

C'mon our team. (Sm152)
