Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Newcastle Utd v Bolton Wanderers
By Tyne-Talk
February 25 2011
Newcastle United host Bolton Wanderers tomorrow afternoon with just a point and a place between them. Newcastle have won one, drawn four and lost one of their last six games in all competitions, whilst Bolton have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has had to contend with one of the Premier Leagues longest injury lists this season as he aims to secure a top ten (and possible European) place and he goes into the game with no less than seven absent players.
Shola Ameobi (fractured cheekbone), Hatem Ben Arfa (broken leg), Danny Guthrie (hamstring), Stephen Ireland (knee), Dan Gosling (knee) and Alan Smith (ankle) are all out, whilst Peter Lovenkrands is a doubt after limping off against Birmingham City last weekend with a thigh injury.
Both Steven (hamstring) and Ryan Taylor (ankle) return to the squad and probably the bench, whilst Nile Ranger and Shefki Kuqi are both waiting in the wings to replace Lovenkrands if he can’t play.
For Bolton, Jaaskelainen will replace Adam Bogdan in goal and Daniel Sturridge, who has scored three goals in three appearances, is back in the squad.
Manager Owen Coyle is without two long term absentees, Zat Knight (knee) and Jlloyd Samuel (thigh), as well as Sean Davis (knee).
Fact: Newcastle United have scored the most goals outside of the top 5 clubs.
Fact: Kevin Nolan needs 1 more goal to reach 50 in his Premier League career, scoring tomorrow will see him celebrate in-front of his former team-mates and fans.

But Newcastle have been all over them.
Don't know why the stream isn't working for you Carys ????

I'd bring Ranger on at 65min, Maybe even Ferguson on for R. Taylor (might force Jonas to swap flanks though).
A draw would suffice, but 3 points will jump us over both Bolton and Sunderland if results hold. Looks like Beckford is finally adjusting (already grabbed a brace today). I think Best has been better though.

How we didn't is beyond me.

IDIOT
Just to try and hammer it home that passing is the way forward.

I would have taken lovenkrands off straight after he tried to score from a ridiculous angle instead of passing it.
Just to try and hammer it home that passing is the way forward.
Was insignificant, as he was offsides anyway, but true.
When we are winning the ball we just stand around waiting to lose it again.
GET FOOKIN FOWARD!
You're never going to win just standing in your own half.
Teams CAN WIN WITH TEN MEN.
GET FORWARD!
Interesting choice with Jonas. 5-2-2 maybe with Enrique and Simpson as wingbacks?

Any idea of what tonights lotto numbers will be?

Nolan nearly scored his second, just at the wrong end.
We should have had this game well wrapped up before r.taylor got sent off.
Finishing today was very poor.
And we are not brave enough to go forward with just ten men.
Lots of room for improvement after watching todays display.
Does anyone know when he is back? Because we sure as hell need him.
Next Saturday, Sunderland is at Emirates, Bolton host Villa, Stoke is at Upton Park, and we host Everton. Going to be a BIG weekend in the middle of the table.
