Newcastle United travel to the Britannia Stadium tomorrow after a weekend off, on the back of one win in the last six games, three draws and two defeats. Stoke host on the back of two wins, three defeats and a draw from their last six, but will be jubilant after securing a place in the FA Cup semi-finals.
Despite the break, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew still has several injury concerns and absent players, including Dan Gosling (knee), Hatem Ben Arfa (broken leg), Stephen Ireland (thigh) and Alan Smith (ankle).
A late decision will be made on Joey Barton (thigh), whilst Jonas Gutierrez and Jose Enrique (both hamstring) are both major doubts.
Striker Nile Ranger should be available having recovered from a knock but Ryan Taylor remains suspended.
Stoke manager Tony Pulis is expected to be without John Carew (back) and Abdoulaye Faye (hamstring) whilst Mamady Sibibe (Achilles) is unavailable. Despite picking up a good FA Cup run, they haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last 9 games.
Fact: Newcastle have won just one of their last nine games in all competitions.
Fact: Leon Best has scored 3 goals in his last 5 games for Newcastle.

Going to be very tough especially with the injuries we have. Hopefully Barton will be ok as we really miss him.
Not sure how the left will line up if both Jonas and Jose are missing. The papers mentioned last week about Sol coming in due to their aerial ability. Not a bad shout really but would he jump Taylor in the pecking order in AP eyes and who would miss out. Would he move Colo out to LB and bring one of the above in with Ferguson playing left wing.
Think I would rather have Sol in than Taylor to be fair but unsure. We are so thin on the ground in midfield that Ferguson may have to play on the wing.

Number one son and myself are driving down in the morning. And frankly its a bit of a drive to go to a hovel.
Nervertheless hopefully it will be worthwhile if we win.

5-4-1 For me, if[i][/i] Jose and Jonas are injured.
STaylor could be moved over to LB remember he used to be able to play anywhere accross the back line. Sol, Colo and Williamson @CB then Simpson RB.
Tiote, Nolan, Barton(RW) (if Available or Ranger), Lovenkrands (LW)
Then Best up top.

Lovenkrands has seemed pretty useless to me lately and I won't mind if Ferguson is used on the wing. I wouldn't be that surprised to see Barton on the left if he's available-didn't we start like that against Stevenage? In any case, LB is by far the more difficult position to fill. And I can't see why Sol would get close to the team unless there's been an injury.

Get Ranger on for Lovenkrands...not sure he has even touched the ball the first half.... we lose our shape a lot with Campbell playing and Barton is not on the wing often enough.... we can get something from this.......... and we need to.

It was a really disappointing display and one that worries me quite a bit. Why did he start with Campbell at the back in the first place. Yes it was to counter Stoke's aerial ability but play to your own strengths! We've scored the second most goals in the league and yet we start a game with five defenders and lose our second straight game since switching to that formation. I'm really upset and disappointed but I guess he'll blame it on the injuries. We deserve better performances and it needs to be seen in the next game against Wolves.

Sorry for the delayed response but re: Campbell for aerial ability-WTF? Since when can't Taylor win a ball in the air? WTF is Pardew thinking?
