Keane Scores

Craven Cottage, home to Fulham F.C. was the arena for last nights International friendly between the ROI and Nigeria. The Irish manager decided to use it, as predicted, to test and view some new blood on the International scene. No less than six new caps were handed out and the lads did no harm to their ambitions for the first team for upcoming games, firstly against Bulgaria in a WCQ.

Michael Enemaro opened the scoring for the Super Eagles before the Irish captain, ever the cool head in front of goal, rounded Austin Ejide to draw the scores level. Even though we failed to get the elusive winner, great heart can be taken from the performance. With a team largely of fresh Internationals, the lads can be proud of the result. Leon Best linked up well with Robbie up front while Liam Lawrence gave an insight of what he is about and the full back positions Eddie Nolan and Kevin Foley were solid , Sean St Ledger dealt well in centre half and Kieran Westwood had a reasonably quiet evening between the sticks. A man who can be very pleased with himself after last night is Liam Miller who put in a very decent performance.

Nigeria with without many of there top players for the game but there replacements did a very good job,Olubayo was probably their best player, while Leeds United target Sam Sodje put in a quality display showing why his signature is sought after.

In truth is wasnt a great match but that was to be expected after both sets of players having endured a long season. From an Irish perspective the match was every important as it gave Trap a chance to try new players in many positions, all debutants will feel they have given Trap food for thought with many big games ahead.

Its the big one next week,ROI vs Bulgaria...........bring um on!!!!
