The long awaited new season kicked off for Sons at Ochilview in Stenhousemuir as we faced up to life in Division Two. Dumbarton had to come from two down and managed to scramble a draw courtesy of goals from Stevie Bonar and Paddy Flannery. Nae luck McVeigh.

John McKeown signs
Sons young central defender John McKeown has signed a new deal with the club. McKeown was signed from Ayr United last season and had an excellent season in the heart of Dumbarton's defence during our promotion campaign.

2002/03 Fixtures
Sons fixtures for the upcoming 2002/03 season are out. The Dunbartonshire derby is back with the first meeting at The Rock on Aug 24th, the new year derby will also be at The Rock while we travel to Cappielow to face the Bankies on the 9th of November and the 8th of March.

In stark contrast to the Daily Record's exclusive the new Sons manager is not Sandy McAnespie but ex-St.Mirren and Aberdeen player David Winnie, who will name Jim Denny as his assistant.

McAnespie New Boss?
According to a national newspaper Dumbarton will soon name ex-Stranraer boss Sandy McAnespie as their new manager. Former Celtic star Paul McStay and ex-Aberdeen winger Peter Weir had been in line for the job left vacant by Tom Carson's departure.

Two sign up - but still no boss....
Goalkeeper John Wight and right-back Michael Dickie have both sign on for next seasons campaign in Division 2. Wight displaced John Hillcoat to take the number 1 jersey for the latter half of the season and saved the injury time penalty which assured Sons of promotion.

Club still waffle - Stirlingshire Cup Draw
Dumbarton FC have issued another non-statement about the on-going manager saga - after forcing Tom Carson and George Clarke out weeks ago they still haven't got a replacement. Douglas Dalgleish has a go at the former management duo for not telling him they'd resigned - this mob are having a laugh.

Sons to face Wanderers
Sons are to face Wycombe Wanderers in a pre-season friendly at The Rock. The match is scheduled for Saturday 27th July 2002 at 3pm. With no manager or coaches at The Rock it's a bit daft to organise this. Maybe sorting out our team would be a better idea Mr.Rankine?
