Match Thread: Cardiff vs Wolves

New Friends Neil & Nuno
By Wolves
November 30 2018

Wolves travel to Cardiff tonight hoping to bring to an end the run that everyone is talking about - 5 matches with out a win

Woves fans will be hoping for a game every bit as exciting as the Championship game at the Cardiff City stadium which featured a superb goal by Ruben Neves and two late penalty saves for Wolves. A ferocious attack on Nuno by Neil Warnock accusing him of bad manners has apparently now been put to bed and Nuno wishes Mr Warnock well for his 70th birthday tomorrow

Wolves will need to address their poor performance against Huddersfield last Sunday which may include some changes of personnel in the team.

Kick off is at 8pm and the natch is once again live on Sky Sports TV

Evening Chesh & Angry

How do you see this one going, I think the points are there for our taking but could do with a bit of confidence boosting early success following the dire performance last week.

Good evening Truro.
I must say our goal came against the run of play, but the corner followed good play by Traore, and Doc has a knack of being in the right place & took it extremely well.
However City definitely pose a threat which we will need to contain. Saiss has settled in well so far.
Glorious pass out of defence by Neves but Traore too heavy footed

Traore must be the fastest player in the prem, if his final touch or any touch was better the guy would be priceless.

Cardiff appeals for a pen when their player with the handlebar moustache goes down - something he's probably used if that ridiculous YMCA tash is indicative of his private life. Awful game low on quality and wolves lucky to be ahead IMO

Re: Match Thread: Cardiff vs Wolves

Half time whistle goes.
A fairly even first half, Wolves took their chance whilst City hit the post. The back three gave gelled & defended quite well. Midfield better than on Sunday & Doc much better. Raul plays too much on the wings for my liking. Traore has shown well and earned the corner which led to the goal. Costa is frustrating +++ he needs to do something useful and create some chance. So far Vinagre is posing much greater threat down the left wing than Costa.

That ‘penalty’ from Cardiff was laughable.
Doherty putting away that rebound was class (almost Premier league).
Not sure if we have the same commentary but they just announced this half was championship play. Wounding but so far accurate.

Apart from the header leading to the goal Jimenez is dreadful, costa goes up and down like a yoyo and pass rate success is lower than a comprehensives exam stats in jaywick ... the only positive is the defence looks quite tight.

Cardiff are hopeless, their latest effort from a ginger tramp that looks like a mutated billy goat gruff flying over the bar like a Nasa rocket launch, but we still need a second as set pieces are potential goal sources for even the most wretched side

Bottom line is we dont have a striker who can score. If you look at our early wins the goals were from defenders/midfielders and its naïve to think we can have any modicum of success being so powderpuff upfront. We've scored fewer goals due to our donkeys upfront than Fulham who are bottom

All over & Cardiff win with a super goal by the talented Junior Hoiett.

It will be interesting to see how we do against Chelsea next Weds without Neves - I think we will be stuffed! A very disappointing night after taking the lead, but on balance I think Cardiff deserved it. We are as Angry says "powder puff up front", and I'm sure we'll all be looking forward to what Fosun will do in January. Hoilett gets Man of the Match. Wolves stay in 11th place.

Nowhere near enough quality in attack. Jiminez, for all his hard work and assists (which is one of the most overrated stats going) isn't good enough and doesn't look like scoring enough goals and of the wide players, Jota has been out of form all season, Costa is creating nothing even if he has one of his better games and Traore has plenty of pace but little else.
They said during the game that prior to today only the top four had conceded less goals. We know that we can play some good football and usually create plenty of chances so, as far as I can see, the problem is there for all to see. It will be interesting to see if anything is done in the transfer window.

I think our system works better against the better opposition.
I therefore would not change it in the upcoming match against Chelsea.
However..it is NNewcastle and Bournemouth after that, and I don´t think we can go on losing the midfield battle against those teams.

I will single out some players.

Rui Patricio...Not the goalie he was a month ago.His individual mistake handed Cardiff their equaliser on a plate.John Ruddy is knocking on the door after performances like this.
Patricio is of course a much better keeper than he has been last two games.I would keep him in for now,but he must improve or else it´s time for Ruddy.

Romain Saisse...Okay yesterday, but nothing more. Not convinced at all right back is his right position.Surprised to see Bennett replaced yesterday.

Ruben Neves..I don´t know what has happened with him.For me he hasn´t succesfully made the step up to PL.Suffers from playing in a midfield outmuscled, outnumbered and outfought..but Neves certainly is partly to blame.

Helder Costa...A complete waste of shirt yesterday. He was absolutely awful.Way to little end product from him and he doesn´t deserve to start games.Apart from Raul, each and everyone of our forwards is best as subs coming from the bench second half.

My preferred starting eleven against Newcastle.

Paricio

Bennett-Coady-Boly

Doherty-Moutinho-Neves-MGW-?(Vinagre..but he is not premier standard yet)

Traore-Jimenez.

Moutinho as the more defensive minded midfielder.

It’s a bit sad when reviewing that match that I am taking some comfort that we weren’t as bad as versus Huddersfield!

We’ve lost our passing ability, intensity in closing down and our marauding wing backs. Add to that when we get in promising situations out wide, we only seem to have Jimenez and a rolling tumbleweed in the box, controlled by four defenders.

Was Patricio fouled or was he weak? Thought big Willy played well, midfield was just okay, no more and those upfront are seriously lacking. Lacking in ideas, confidence, decision making, strength ........ and goals. Costa powder puff, Traore not trusted to play 90 minutes and Jimenez hardly prolific. I like the latter, his work rate is superb but as a centre forward he is becoming too isolated.

Chelsea next. Time for an Arsenalesque type performance. Please. We need a bit of encouragement. No idea who to suggest to play to stop the rot. MGW as Neves is suspended. Where is Dendonker? Who is Dendonker?

UTW!!

I would put MGW straight in for the suspended Neves against Chelsea.

Big Willy our MOTM for my money yesterday.

Chelsea won´t mind giving us a little bit more time in midfield. It will be interesting too see what impact it will have.I suspect we are in for a much better performance against Chelsea.

The key to get our game going is the central midfielders. So much is supposed to go through them.I have high hopes MGW will shine.

Onwards and upwards. There is always the next game.

Forever Wolves.
