After two matches away from home which produced no points, Wolves return to Molineux this evening and welcome newly promoted Burnley once again. Wolves suffered from poor VAR intervention at Fulham and poor marking at the Emirates last week, and need to get back to winning ways this evening in front of their home crowd.
Despite the fact that Burnley have returned to the Premiership this season this is unliklely to be an easy three points to achieve. Their new Manager Vincent Company has weathered well the fact that they have only won twice and drawn once so far, and has stuck to his principles in how he shapes and wants his team to play. On Saturday they demolished a poor Sheffield United team 5 - 0 which has led to the sacking of Paul Heckingbottom who brought them back up from the Champ, but has failed in the PL. He has been replaced by Chris Wilder - the last Manager who brought them back up from the Champ, but failed ultimately in his second season in the PL!!!
Wolves will be hoping to build on a spirited performance in the second half at Arsenal capped by a superb goal by Wolves Man of the Match Matheus Cunha. It can only be presumed that Joao Gomes and Mario Lemina will return to their usual midfield roles after serving their suspensions, and perhaps Pablo Serabia may get a starting place. Rayan Ait Nouri and Pedtro Neto are still recovering from injuries whilst Jonny Castro Otto is unavailable following a 'training ground incident' last week. Jose Sa is back in training so it will be interesting to see whether he returns immediately or Dan Bentley retains his place after keeping a clean sheet when he came on at Arsenal. One observation is that his distribution puts much less pressure on our defenders than Jose's does! Whatever team Gary O'Neil decides upon they will have to work hard this evening to overcome the fact that Burnley have been one of our bogey teams in recent seasons - especially under Sean Dyche's management, perhaps the worst result being the 4-0 drubbing at Molineux in Nuno's final season!!
Tonight's game will kick off at 7:30pm and will be screened by Amazon Prime. Highlights will be shown tomorrow night on BBC's MotD. Our referee will be Jarred Gillett - the Australian clown who sent off Lemina at Southampton last season for approaching him - supported by Rob Jones on VAR, who gave the last minute penalty against us at Sheffield United. So all augers well!!!!

Currently in the Great Western. Great boozer!
Looking forward to the match, it’s a proper night for football, very cold, a night for the thermals and a good Wolves win. Even an old fashioned 7.30 KO. 4 changes I see, Lemina and Gomes back, Sarabia in and Bentley for the injured Sa.
Everything crossed, 3-1 to us for me.

Four changes for tonight's starting Xl with Bentley retaining his place in goal, Lemina and Gomes back in and Serabia replacing Belleguarde - who I thought played well on Saturday. Line-up:

Koleosho seems to be the Burnley danger man and is buzzing around Semedo to force a mistake. All the action is in Wolves half so far.

Super ball forward by Max but Trafford grts to it just before Pablo. Poor clearance by Dan puts the defence under pressure & corner conceded but it goes straight out

Wolves pressing Burnley’s defenders well but then Lemina is offside. Koleosho gets a corner off Max, which ends with a shot high & wide. Getting caught trying to play out from the back again and lucky to get a goal kick. A Pablo shot is deflected needs saving for a corner, which is poor & ends up with a throw in.

At last a fabulous run ipmthe right wing by Nelson & his cross is met by Pablo who hits it with the wrong foot and puts it over the bar. Koleosho trying to run off an injury

Dan has a save to make with no problem. Nelson gets into the area bu5 can’t find a team mate. Koleosho is replaced by Gudmundsson which may benefit Wolves

Good cross put in by Hwang but cut out before it reaches Cunha. Gomes loses possession in our area and Dan has to make two good saves & give away a corner well cleared by Dawson.

Good tackling by Gomes to stop a B’ley attack, Good coll play after Bkley lose possession at the back. Pablo to Cunha to Hwang and he stops and neatly plants it past Trafford

Excellent ballinto the area by Pablo for Lemina but put out for a corner which is another dreadful one from Pablo, as the whistle goes.
A pretty dull first hal from Wolves perspective with lots of cross field passing within our defence and little penetrative attacking pkay. Burnley have posed a real threat and brought two quick fire saves from Bentley. Poor play in the B’ley area conceded possession, Pablo fed Cunha who fed Hwang who cooly converted for yet another goal at Molineux for him. Personably I would prefer to see JRB in midfield instead of Pablo as he attacks far more and Lemina & Gomes are doing the defensive duties.

Both teams looking a bit cautious and tentative but the mistake from Burnley that Hwang scored from was laughable. Well taken though.
The commentators on Prime are complete 5h1t. Turned it off, listening to Thomo and Mikey Burrows on the Wolves website. Not quite in sequence but a small price to pay to avoid listening to Prime talking 99% about Burnley and Vincent F…ing Kompany.

Lemina angry at not getting a free kick from his old friend Gillett. Hugo goes down on the edge of their area for a free kick & a yellow card for Berger. Pablo puts the ball in but Lemina can’t over it with his header.

Glorious ball out to Hugo from Pablo, he attacks & gets a corner, which is pu5 over the bar by Berger for another, Pablo puts it over & Dawson outs it across the box but nobody is there to connect.

Lemina tries to break and is pulled back by Taylor who is booked. Cunha hasn’t had the same impact tonight as he did on Saturday. Max gives the ball away bu5 recovers it very well. Pablo breaks and is stopped by a Berge foul just outside their area in a great position. Serabia sizing it up and brings a save out of Trafford for a corner. Headed over by near post by Hwang.

Hwang oicks up a loose ball & gets into the area but a very poor pass to Lemina. Ekdal fouls Cunha & is the 4th B’ley player to be cautioned.

Semedo can’t control after a miskick by Dawson and a corner is given but cleared. Toti tackles & gives another corner which goes to Vitinho & he blasts over.

Burnley grt a corner which their keepers up for but it’s cleared. Added time has been played and this is substitution time. Free kick to Wolves in our area then the whistle goes for another 3 points for Wolves. Not an exciting game but. Burnley came to try and win, but they found Dan Bentley in great form, and Hee Chan Hwang took his opportunity really well for another home goal. Not a classic by any means but a well deserved 3 points in the end. Expecting a more difficult challenge on Saturday.

Great to get the three points but not a convincing performance against one of the leagues contenders for relegation. Man of the match for me would be Cunha who just never stops and another assist. Also a little alarmed that we caused ourselves so many problems trying to play out from the back.

Great result but not good for the nerves. Toti was clearly acting on instructions but always SO predictable (like Semedo was last year).
Anyway Burnley couldn’t shake off the nerves, despite a ref who forgot that he had a red card to use (maybe he forgot to bring it)

The result was great and puts considerable daylight,once again, between us and the drop zone but ….. what an odd match. We never got going and it was a total shock to me that we managed to score in that first half at all! Not great entertainment really. Moments of good stuff but fleeting and scarce. Nice composed Hwang finish, credit to him, he just keeps scoring ! Nice of Burnley to present it on a plate.
I felt Toti, Dawson and Kilman all played pretty well, Kilman played the ball of the match with a 50 yard second half cross field pass to Bueno. Too much messing about at the back however from goal kicks though, especially first half. Excellent Bentley double save in the first half, would like to see that again.
All in all, forgettable, but the history books will record we won! UTW!
