Once again, Glenn Hoddles Wolves have been made to pay dearly, after once again failing to kill off their opponents when they were there for the taking. One point from 9, as many goals as points and fans are beginning to ask questions
Wolves, searching for a home win to put their title challenge back on course took an early lead against Derby last night through in form scots striker Kenny Miller, but failure to convert any of their numerous chances that followed came back to haunt them 42 seconds into the second half when County equalised through Mounir El Hamdaoui. In a now familiar pattern, Carl Cort, the divisions highest scorer was by far the worst offender, but his numerous misses were mirrored by Kenny Miller, Lee Naylor, and hometown favourite Joleon Lescott. Hoddle said "We should have won. We need to start killing teams off if we want a good season and we need to start putting the ball in the back of the net more." Wolves fans can point to a marginal decision by the referees assistant when most thought Cort had headed the ball over the line, but the plain truth is the game should have been dead and buried by then. Hoddle kept the players in the changing room for an hour afterwards but denied that this was to deliver the riot act. "I had a lot of people to talk to but there was no rollicking going on at their performance," he added.
