| Campbell and Young Back in Training - Injury Update |
| City players Scott Young and Andy
Campbell have both returned to training after spending spells on the
sidelines with injury. The two players will not feature in the City set-up
for a couple of weeks yet, but they have progressed enough to get back into
training with the rest of the squad. City's longest serving player, Young, has not played in a competitive City game since the thrilling 3-3 draw with Tranmere Rovers last season, with a frustrating back injury keeping him out of action. Andy Campbell has also returned to light training after aggravating a thigh strain in a reserve match a few weeks ago. Campbell last game for City was the 4-1 victory over Leyton Orient in the League Cup, with the England Under-21 international striker getting on the scoresheet. However, Campbell faces a tough order to get himself back into regular first-team action this season, with Rob Earnshaw, Peter Thorne, Alan Lee and Gavin Gordon all battling for places. Meanwhile, Daniel Gabbidon is expected to return to training in the next couple of days, with an eye to starting Tuesday's League cup clash with First Division favourites West Ham United. Alan Lee completes his suspension on Saturday, but is unlikely to be back in first-team action for at least another few weeks after undergoing surgery on a cartilage injury. There are also increasing concerns over the fitness of John Robinson, who limped off during the 2-1 defeat at Reading last Tuesday. Should Robbo miss Saturday's clash then it could mean Daniel Gabbidon will be added to the squad as a substitute, and could leave Jason Bowen with a place in the starting line-up after playing 7 minutes as a substitute at the Madjeski Stadium. |
