Flexsys Cefn Druids 3 Aberystwyth 0 - Match Report

Druids claimed a fantastic 3-0 victory over 4th placed Aberystwyth at Plaskynaston Lane. After a week plagued by financial difficulties, the 'Ancients' let the football do the talking, which would have left the neutral thinking it was the home side who were pushing for European qualification.

Druids had the game wrapped up before half-time, courtesy of a fine brace from free-scoring Steve Rogers, and a 3rd from young midfielder Matthew Dabbs, on loan from neighbours Wrexham.

The first goal came on just 4 minutes, when Rogers burst through a weak Aber defence, and shot low past stand-in keeper Richard Morgan.

The home side were clearly buoyed by this early goal, and spent the majority of the 1st half in the visitor's half. However it was not until the 40th minute that they doubled their lead. Following a flowing move down the Druids left Rogers finished off a cross into the six yard box.

The 3rd came just 3 minutes later, this time loanee Matthew Dabbs waltzed through the dreaming Greens defence, and shot low past the hapless Morgan. A fine goal to cap possibly the finest 45 minutes seen at Plaskynaston Lane all season

The 2nd half saw Aber put the Ancients under a bit more pressure, but the Druids defence stood strong, led by the inspirational Aled Rowlands. Aber failed to create any clear cut chances, and never looked like seriously threatening the home side.

Substitute Anthony Williams almost added a 4th late on, but his drive shot against the angle.

Seeveral members of the new Druids Fundraising Committee, including former Wrexham chairman Pryce Griffiths, must have been impressed by the Ancients performance, and if this level of play can be maintained, don't bet against Druids stealing a Premier Cup place. As for Aber, they were incredibly poor, and will want to forget this result quickly, if they are to claim their European place.
