John Hartson has confirmed that he has spoken to John Toshack and made himself available for a Wales return.
The 31-year-old striker announced his international retirement in February, but a summer move from Celtic to Albion has prompted a rethink.
Wales manager John Toshack favours a speedier front line but he has welcomed the back-up that Hartson can provide.
"I spoke to John (Toshack) on Monday and said that if I'm needed I'm there for him," said Hartson.
"He was delighted with that. He doesn't want me to travel half-way round the world if I'm not going to play, but if there are injuries or suspensions then I am available."
Hartson's original decision to quit was prompted by a desire to see more of his children, but having moved closer to his native Swansea he has more time.
"If Wales need me they will give me plenty of notice, I'm half out of retirement," said the 6ft 1ins target man.
Hartson made his Wales debut in March 1995 in an away match against Bulgaria, and went on to score 14 goals up to his last appearance against Cyprus last November.

Jason Koumas has again underlined his desire to move from Albion to Cardiff and says he is hopeful something can be sorted out in the coming days.
Koumas has been at the heart of one of the country’s most drawn out transfer sagas after going on strike with Albion to pave the way for a move to Cardiff.
However the two clubs have been unable to agree a deal so far and it has left Koumas in limbo causing him to pull out of the Wales squad
'I'm not fit to play international football at the moment. If I took a knock with the situation as it is I'd be in a mess," Koumas told the South Wales Echo.

"It's too much of a risk at the moment and John [Toshack] understood the current position. I will need three or four games under my belt to get match fit.

"I've made my position crystal clear. I want to play for Cardiff City and manager Dave Jones.

"I believe something is being done, but I was saying that two or three weeks ago, so we'll see what happens in the next day or so. I think I've done my bit, so let's just hope that things will go through in the next 24-48 hours."

So why does Koumas keep falling out with albion managers?

And has hartson still got it at international level?
