Marine vs. Leigh Genesis preview

After suffering their first defeat in three league games in the 4-2 loss to Whitby Town at Victory Park on Saturday afternoon, Leigh Genesis will be looking to get back to winning ways in a tricky trip to fellow play-off chasers Marine on Tuesday evening.

Although Marine, who boast former Leigh RMI striker Peter Cumiskey in their ranks, have enjoyed a solid start to the season with just two defeats in nine games leaving them in fifth position, their last home outing resulted in a vidi-printer busting 5-1 FA Cup defeat to league rivals Worksop Town, despite the Merseyside outfit putting the Tigers to the sword 6-2 on the opening day of the UniBond Premier League season.

However, unlike Steve Bleasdale's Leigh side, Marine managed to quickly put that disappointment behind them by securing an impressive 3-1 victory at Witton Albion at the weekend, taking their season's total to sixteen goals and leaving them as the division's third-highest scorers.

The two sides last met in the Second Round of the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy in December 2005 when Marine were 4-1 penalty shoot out victors after the game finished in a 1-1 draw after extra time, while you'd have to go back to to December 1999 for Leigh's last visit to Rossett Park, Chris Price scoring a Marine equaliser just two minutes from time after previously leading through a strike from Steve Jones, now with Burnley, in the season that saw Leigh RMI crowned UniBond Premier League champions.

Steve Bleasdale has a couple of injury worries ahead of tomorrow night's fixture, with winger Brad Maylett forced to withdraw from Saturday's game after picking up a knock in the first half, while Richard Chetcuti is still short of full match fitness after a spell on the sidelines.

Kick off is at 7:45pm with admission costing £8 for adults and £4 for concessions, with anyone travelling from Leigh advised to join the M58 at Orrell and then go to Crosby via the A5036, A5207 and A565.
