Garry Flitcroft maintained his unbeaten start to his Genesis managerial career, but his side did it the hard way away to former Football League outfit Boston United, claiming a point only after Jordan Stepien had converted an 88th minute penalty for Leigh.
In glorious Lincolnshire sunshine, Leigh started the brighter of the two teams and went close when winger Tom Ince turned Boston right back Tom Matthews inside out before delivering a low cross that flew agonisingly just in front of the stretching Jack Dorney, while Jordan Stepien also saw two attempts deflected wide.
Dorney came within a fraction of putting his side in front on twenty four minutes when he cut inside on to his left foot and sent a twenty five yard strike flashing narrowly over the crossbar, while at the other end Stephen Drench comfortably saved a low Ricky Miller free kick.
Leigh survived the penalty appeals of the hosts when Drench made a rare mistake and fumbled the ball, before narrowly getting a touch to the ball to divert away from Paul Ellender, bringing down the Boston man in the same movement but the appeals of the home crowd fell on deaf ears.
Just as Genesis conceded a goal from a corner kick in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Cammell Laird at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium, Leigh were undone by a set piece once again just six minutes before the interval when centre back Wes Parker was afforded enough space at the back post to thump a header past Drench from Steve Melton's inviting left wing corner.
That lead was nearly doubled on the stroke of half-time when Ricky Miller cracked a snapshot against the top of Drench's crossbar as the hosts looked to kill the game off.
Just as it appeared that Leigh would be making the long journey home empty handed, they were gifted a lifeline in the 88th minute when Ince was bundled over in the area by substitute David Farrell, with Jordan Stepien making no mistake in claiming his third goal in two games from the penalty spot.
A point wasn't exactly what either side were looking for ahead of a busy Easter programme, but it can certainly be seen as a point gained rather than two dropped for Leigh, given the circumstances of the equaliser, ahead of a Good Friday trip to East Yorkshire to take on North Ferriby United.
