Thirty seven year old Mark Maddox was appointed Leigh Genesis manager on Tuesday 25th May 2010 following Garry Flitcroft's resignation from the Leigh management position.

A centre back during his playing days, Maddox spent two years with Leigh between 2006 and 2008 having previously spent ten years with Altrincham, several of which he captained the Cheshire side.

Maddox spent the 2007/2008 season in the Conference North with Vauxhall Motors, before accepting the post of Centre of Excellence Manager at League Two side Accrington Stanley.

In terms of coaching qualifications, Maddox is almost without comparison in the league, having earned the hugely-respected UEFA 'A' Coaching Licence in 2009 before taking charge of Vodkat North West Counties Premier League side Formby in October 2009. Maddox took over a side that were languishing at the bottom of the table but, under the Liverpudlian's guidance, managed to finish fourteen points clear of the relegation zone in a credible fifteenth position.

On his appointment, Maddox said "I'm delighted to be here and to be given the opportunity at a higher level. I enjoyed my time with Formby, but this was too good a job to turn down".

"Leigh were always a well-run and friendly club when I was here as a player, so it made perfect sense to return as manager when the chance presented itself".

Having registered himself as a player upon his appointment in case of emergency, Maddox was called in to action as an extra time substitute in a 3-1 Evo-Stik League Challenge Cup First Round defeat away to Curzon Ashton on Monday 11th October 2010.

After a tough first half of the Evo-Stik League First Division North campaign, Maddox left Leigh Genesis by mutual consent on Friday 3rd December 2010, to be replaced by youth team boss Alan Kershaw.

While under Maddox's management, Leigh won two league games, 1-0 at home to Garforth Town and 1-0 away to Harrogate Railway Athletic, while securing two FA Cup wins with 1-0 and 4-3 victories at home to Runcorn Linnets and away to Rossendale United respectively.
