Leigh Genesis completed their pre-season programme with a defeat to higher league opposition in Ossett Town, with Mark Maddox's side getting over a horror start to come up with a much better second half performance.

With Ossett competing a league above Genesis in the Evo-Stik Premier League, even the most optimistic fan might have been wary of travelling over the Pennines in expectancy of victory, but the visitors made the worst possible start after just a couple of minutes when a throw from the Leigh goalkeeper was intercepted by an Ossett man to play in JD Ibrahim to slot the ball home.

That lead was doubled barely ten minutes later when the Leigh defence were caught out by a cross from the left hand side and left Matt Young with the simple task of tapping in for a second Ossett goal.

After struggling through the first forty five minutes, Leigh showed an improved second half but failed to trouble the scorers, unlike Monday's 3-2 friendly defeat at league rivals Trafford when Genesis threatened to overturn a three goal half-time deficit.

The defeat at Ossett completes Leigh's pre-season programme, with their Evo-Stik League Division One North campaign beginning with their first ever game at their new Crilly Park home against Curzon Ashton next Saturday (21st August, 3pm). Admission costs £7 for adults, £5 for over 65's and students and just £2 for under 18's.
