AS Airdrie 0-2 Milton Amateurs

AS Airdrie entertained Milton Amateurs on Saturday in the 4th round of the Scottish Amateur Cup. Due to the Council calling off the Sports Centre Parks the game had to be played at Craigneuk, but due to the travelling support if New Broomfield wasn't being used it would have surely been the more suitable venue. Airdie only had 13 to pick from. Notable ommissions were Morrison and captain Smith who were at a Boys Brigade grooming course.

Airdrie found themselves behind in the first five minutes when a defensive mix up let one of the visitors score with what looked like a slide tackle. Not the best of starts. Airdrie did their best to get back into the game, but were struggling to cope with pace and accurate passing of the visiting team. The wee boy on the left wing was playing well and if anyone can be bothered turning up at training, please bring a plug for Capoo for the new a***hole he was ripped!

The vistors had a numerous chances to increase their lead and only some great saves by Johnny kept the score at one nil. Airdie had a couple of chances with Clark and Gray both missing when played through. Just before half time Gray had a half chance when he was put through and tried to lob the keeper only to be denied by the woodwork.

The second half was pretty much the same as the first with the visiting team pushing hard to increase their lead. They deservedly scored a second mid way through the second half when they broke down the left and then cut back to the striker who finished neatly. The only other exciting thing during the second half was the presence of a police helicopter keeping the casuals at bay.

So the game finished two nil to the visitors who acquitted themselves well, but Airdrie can hold their heads high. Edgar played well in the middle of the park and Johnny had some good saves. The defence also did admirably to keep the continuous onslaught at bay. They limited the chances of the visitors and kept the score respectable. Not much to be commenetd about upfront, as there weren't many chances on our part.

Due to the team wanting to get away to watch the diamonds there wasn't much said after the match, but from speaking to the lads I believe its fair to say the better team won. When playing in competitions of such stature it is imperative to have options on the sidelines, which AS Airdrie were clearly lacking. However it wasn't all bad and AS Airdie can take comfort in the fact that we have come along way since last year and with a few additions to the squad the team can progress even further.
