Goal number 250 for WR

Wayne Rooney scored a sensational late equaliser to become Manchester United's all-time record goalscorer, as the Red Devils shared the spoils with Stoke City on Stanley Matthews Way, on Saturday.

The England frontman eclipsed Sir Bobby Charlton's goal tally as he curled home a beautiful free-kick from the edge of the penalty box; the 250th time he has hit the net for the club.

Rooney's response was to urge his team-mates onto grab a winner; rather than milk the famous moment for all it was worth. The goal cements Roon's spot as one of United's greatest ever players.

180 of Rooney's United goals have come in the Premier League, 22 in the FA Cup, 34 in the Champions League, five in the League Cup, five in the Europa League and four in other competitions. He reached the milestone in 546 appearances - or one goal per 2.184 outings. Rooney also scored 17 times during his time at Everton.

The hosts had taken the lead with 19 minutes on the clock after Juan Mata Garcia turned Erik Pieters' cross into his own net, on a bad day at the office for the Spaniard.

Jose Mourinho's men dominated possession, and had more than four times the shots which their hosts did, but a resolute Stoke were able to frustrate United for long periods, and will be hugely disappointed to have come so close to claiming the scalp.

United are now unbeaten in 17 outings, and sit three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal, after the Gunners beat Burnley with a late penalty on Sunday. The day, however, belonged to Rooney - a stunning record, and one the 31-year-old will hope to add to for many seasons yet.

Full Time - Stoke City 1-1 Manchester United
Attendance - 27,423

Rooney's record will now take some beating. Plus he will add q few more before he's finished. Hopefully with a trophy or two this season as well.
