Sam Johnstone kicked off his second loan spell at Aston Villa with a 1-1 Football League Championship draw against Hull City.

The Manchester United stopper penned a one-season loan deal with the Villains in July.

He had spent six months with the Midlands club last season, and has said he feels the 2017/18 campaign can be a "special season" for Villa.

Johnstone played all 90 minutes as Villa and Hull, two clubs targeting promotion, drew one apiece.

Gabriel Agbonlahor had given the home side an early lead, but Johnstone was beaten by Jarrod Bowen as honours finished even.

Elsewhere, Welsh defender Reagan Poole was an unused substitute for Northampton Town, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury Town.
