Reaction to the Barnet game

I'm not quite sure where to start with this reaction, mainly because I have very little to complain about for once but we might as well get the one thing I do complain about over with so we can get on to the positives. The way we start games is quite worrying because we've started a lot of games very slowly and let's not beat around the bush, there are a LOT of better teams in the division than Barnet and once we face a decent side, they might actually punish us for the slow starts.

Right, now that's over, it's nice to see that not one player put in a bad performance and I've struggled to pick a man of the match. The obvious choice would be Forrester but I'm going to go for a player who is often under-rated by Imps fans and that was Nat Brown. To come back from being out injured for that length of time and not only play well, but turn the game around, deserves respect from City fans and I find it no coincedence that as soon as he came on, we started bossing the game. However, that is not to take away anything from what was a good team performance all around.

A lot has been said about our passing this season but yet again, as soon as we started playing football, we easily broke through the Barnet defence but we didn't have a hard task in putting the ball past the worst professional goal-keeper I've ever seen. The 3 goals from open play were all an example of what the Imps do best. The first was a great move that cut the defence apart, the second was fortunate but showed that City players in general know where to be when it matters and the forth was another great pass from another player who has his critics but played well, Paul Mayo.

It was a good confidence booster ahead of next week's game against Rochdale and then comes the big one, Swindon away.

Alan Marriott - 9 - Had little to do throughout but that save immediately after we scored the first, was fantastic and classic-Marriott. Also made several other vital saves in 1-on-1 situations.

Jeff Hughes - 8 - Still pulled out of way too many tackles for my liking but other than that, he looked pretty solid put in several decent crosses.

Adie Moses - 6 - Wasn't really on long enough before getting injured.

Lee Beevers - 8 - Hard tackling as ever and scored....although it was a bit of a fluke.

Nicky Eaden - 9 - Ok, who replaced the Eaden of 2 weeks ago with this guy? Seriously, what turned Eaden from what he was to this sort of performance. Did everything well and despite being beaten early on that almost cost a goal, you'd be hard pushed to find another mistake in his game.

Ryan Amoo - 7 - Bit quiet but his passing was solid.

Lee Frecklington - 7 - Great vision from Freck for one goal, won the penalty and only failed to score because an unnessacerily large afro got in the way.

Scott Kerr - 8 - His first really good performance for a while, gave their midfield the run around and even managed to get a set piece over the first defender (seriously).

Paul Mayo - 9 - Is nearly always used as a scapegoat by the Imps' crowd but Mayo was excellent today and didn't put a foot wrong. Very calm under pressure and linked well with Hughes down the left.

Mark Stallard - 6 - Very quiet again but set up one of the goals but worrying, didn't have a shot on goal.

Jamie Forrester - 10 - Can't complain with a hat-trick but let's face it, it won't be the most difficult that he'll ever score. However, passing was excellent, as was his vision.

Nat Brown - 10 - You'd struggle to fine anyeone who didn't think he played exceptionally well. Again proved he's great cover for the first choice defenders. He won ever header that came near him and you can't fault him at all.

Martin Gritton - 6 - Didn't really do a lot to be fair, can't recall him having a shot and pulled out of way too many tackles.

Leon Mettam - 7 - Good goal.

"Great game looks like beevs and brown have given schoey a bit of a difficult selection decision if morgs and moses are fit aswell. Solid display from brown at the back, we are actually winning headers now back there. Forrester was good again, Kerr seemed to return to form aswell. In Fact the entire team played well aprt from one. The negative though was Jeff Hughes again, we really need to get someone in who can push him for his spot in the team as he looks like he is getting complacent.
5-0 away from home even against relegation fodder is a sure sign of a team gunning for promotion." Born to do Dishes
