Shockingly poor City slip to bottom of the table

City yet again failed to inspire on the road as only one shot on target against a very average Brentford side saw the Imps lose 1-0, going to the bottom of the table in the process. With 2 home games coming up against promotion chasing sides, the Imps will now have their work cut out as they have still yet to win since beating Accrington Stanley on August 25th.

The hosts kicked off but it was City who almost scored after just 15 seconds when a Brown clearance deflected goalwards off of Dodds, going well wide of the target, but it was a promising start from the Imps. Alan Connell, a striker who has put the ball in the net in every game (with the exception of one) before this game that he has played against the Imps (although one of those was disallowed), then sent a ambitious shot goalwards, deflecting off of Paul Green and almost sneaking under the bar and into the net.

Bencharif had to be alert of as a Poole cross along the six yard box line almost fell to the feet of a Brentford striker, Bencharif clearing the ball out for a corner. John Mackie, another player who has a habit of scoring past City, head goalwards but had his effort easily saved by Marriott.

Bencharif seemed to be the only defender interested in defending as he tackled Connell again, Ide shot wide from the loose ball. Thorpe then shot wide with a very lacklusture effort. City then produced a rare attack, but again failed to create a worthwhile opportunity.

However, Frecklington then had City's best chance of the half as he was released one-on-one with Brown, however, he tried his luck with a first time shot and saw the ball sailing well wide of the target. Both sides played out the rest of one of the most boring halves this season without mustering a shot between them.

Poole had the first decent attempt of the second half, sending his long range effort wide of the post. The second half was almost as slow as the second and it took until the 71st minute for another noteworthy piece of action to take place. That came as Brentford won a corner but Thorpe pushed around all of City's defenders and the Imps were awarded with a free kick.

In a rare attack, Kerr was denied a run on goal by Pead. The former Walsall defender then volleyed goalwards, seeing his effort tipped behind by Marriott, although it was heading wide anyway.

Brentford opened with scoring with a very soft goal as a free kick was played in an found an unmarked Moore at the back post and he had an easy task of heading into an empty net as Marriott made very little attempt to get across the goal to try and block it. Torpey replaced Wright before N'Guessan replaced Croft.

City ended the game forcing several corners, none of which came to anything and the Imps slipped to yet another defeat, one that sees them bottom of the League.
