Imps and Bury play out yet another draw

City and Bury shared the points at Sincil Bank for the third year in a row, but it was full of controversy due to a fight just before half time that saw Anthony Elding get sent off. Ben Wright's third goal of the season before Andy Bishop scored in his third match in a row against the Imps.

City kicked off the game but neither side really imposed themselves on the game early on, only an Andy Morrell header wide really producing any action at this point. Sodje and Cresswell had to be alert to deny Ben Wright a run on goal, the Imps slowly becoming the team in control as Haslam almost scored an own goal when heading a Paul Green cross over. N'Guessan tried to beat Brown from 25 yards but it wasn't on target.

Rob Burch saved an excellent effort from Jones before Kerr sent a volley wildly over. The Imps did take the lead just before the half hour when O'Connor whipped in a dangerous cross and Aaron Brown picked it up. The Bury defence obviously thought it was offside as they didn't react at all as Brown played the ball across goal to Wright and the lanky striker eventually hit home his third goal of the season. It was a very strange goal as it all seemed to be in slow motion.

Kovacs tackled Bishop as he was bursting into the net before controversy struck. Elding was booked for a foul on Sodje but he was sent off within seconds as he got tangled with Ryan Cresswell. The pair swung legs and arms at each-other. After the scuffle had finish and the referee had spoken to his assistant, Elding was sent off and Cresswell was given yellow. However, it wasn't finished there as Elding also got into a fight with one of Bury's coaching staff, again having to be separated by everyone else on the pitch.

That was the end of the first half.

The second half started but there were no noteworthy incidents for the opening 10 minutes, the first effort being Sodje hitting a Elliott cross wide. It then wasn't long before a chance that fully summed up Ben Wright's season. He was sent free by Brown had all the time in the world, only to see his dribbling effort go wide of the post. It was near-enough all Bury after that.

Racchi replaced Haslam and it wasn't long before he was tangled with his former Huddersfield team-mate as he and Sinclair went up for a header and had a little bit of a scuffle afterwards, Hurst then replaced Morrell. The visitors were starting to dominate play but unlike Grimsby, couldn't take most of their chances as Bishop, Morrell, Sodje and Elliott all missed chances, but the Shakers did equaliser seven minutes from time.

Hurst played in Bishop and the striker who has a habit of scoring against City did so again, lifting it over Burch, although the goalkeeper has since said he thinks the striker was only aiming to control the ball.

Patulea replaced Wright but it was still all defensive play to for the Imps with Bury's Jones almost scoring from 30 yards with a beautiful curling shot and then the visitors wasted several corners before the referee blew the whistle.
