Top 20 Players : 9th - Dany N'Guessan

Dany N'Guessan played for the Imps for two and a half years, joining from one of the biggest clubs in Scotland. The Frenchman was inconsistent and just frustrating at times, but it was the occasional moment of brilliance which encouraged City fans to vote him as the 9th best player to have played for the club over the last ten years.

 

In the January 2007 transfer window, City were desperately in need of new players. Although City were still going strong and still looking heavily involved in the promotion shake-up, it was obvious to most the results would soon dry up. Schofield and Deehan's solution was to bring in two players, the first being a right back from Aston Villa, Paul Green. The other was a Frenchman who had been on loan at Boston from Rangers, but had struggled to get on the pitch there, so most were surprised that the John's went after him.

Making his debut against Peterborough, the early signs showed exactly what he would turn out to be, a brilliant but inconsistent player. He beat several defenders before finding himself through on goal, only to then hit the post when he had all the time in the world. He would spent most of his first season at the club in the reserves, making the odd appearance here and there.

His first taste of regular first team football came in the 2007/8 season when he was regularly starting games, a home match against Accrington proving to be one of his best performances in a City shirt, almost rounding off the performance with a stunning goal as the bar denied him a goal from 35 yards. However, he would remain inconsistent and Peter Jackson became frustrated enough to drop him completely for a month, returning with a goal against Dagenham and Redbridge.

It wasn't until last season that N'Guessan came into his own and became one of the key players in City's failed attempt at making the Playoffs. Five goals in seven games at the turn of the year, including a stunner at Rochdale and a 95^th minute winner at Gillingham, alerted teams higher up the League to him and the Imps rejected two six figure bids from MK Dons for his services.

A equaliser at Grimsby turned out to be his final goal for the Imps and his performances went slightly downhill, but this wasn't enough to put off Leicester and N'Guessan joined the Foxes in the summer. Despite scoring in his first two games for Leicester, injuries have hampered his start to life at the Walkers Stadium.
