Defensive Midfielder : Cian Hughton

Cian Hughton joined the Imps just before the start of the 2009/2010 season, initially on a six month contract. Rated as one of the best players that Peter Jackson bought to the club, Hughton has (at the time of writing) been a near ever present for the Imps.

Cian Hughton joined the Imps on trial basis after being released by Premiership Spurs, following on the footsteps set by Alan Marriott and Peter Gain who had both made the same move. He impressed enough in pre-season to convince Jackson to give him a six month contract.

An injury to Paul Green meant that Hughton would become first choice right back and he made his debut in the opening day victory against Barnet. He went on to become a mainstay of the side over the 2009 half of the season, only missing one game through injury. He scored his first goal in the Boxing Day win over Chesterfield.

Talks started on a new contract and after initially being offered a new six month contract, he managed to talk Chris Sutton into giving him and 18 month contract that he agreed on New Years Eve.

Paul Green returned to action and Hughton was pushed to the right hand side of midfield, a position which he impressed immensely, including scoring four goasl in the second half of the season.

After a brilliant 2009/10 season, Hughton's form collapsed at the beginning of the next season and when Steve Tilson was appointed as manager, Hughton was quickly dropped and never properly regained his place before being released at the end of the season.
