City end season in dull stalemate

Lincoln City ended the 2009/10 in a style that summed up our season, the failure to score. Despite recording five straight wins against the Silkmen, City rarely threatened the goal and in all fairness, the only moment worth noting was Davide Somma getting sent off for headbutting a defender.

In what was a fairly dull game, he only major talking point was the sending off of Somma. The South African was attempting to get to an Anderson cross before Hessey intercepted. Somma took exception to the treatment of the defender and right in front of the referee, shoved his head into the face of Hessey and not just the once. The only surprise about the sending off was that the players were trying to appeal it.

Other than that it was mainly Macclesfield who were looking likely to score and they forced Burch into several decent saves. City only had one realistic attempt and that fell the way of Steven Lennon. The ball fell to the striker in the box but with his back facing goal, he had to spin without looking and hit the post.

The fact I've been able to fit this whole match report into a mere handful of paragraphs says it all.
