York City's Bootham Cresent

York's Bootham Cresent (I'm not going to call it KitKat Cresent because it just sounds stupid) is a ground that can best be described as "Old School". A mixture of seating and terrace is done properly in this ground, although as a day out, it's not great.

Let me start off by saying that if you need a spare dug out, please visit Kit Kat Cresent because they have about 20 spare dugouts sat in a corner of the ground just waiting for the others to smash or something.

Getting to York via car is fairly easy although getting to the ground itself is a bit of a farce because it is in amongst lots of terraced housing, similar to the area towards the North and West sides of Sincil Bank. Via train it is again quite an easy journey and the walk from the ground to the train station is actually quite nice, taking you through some nice areas, over the river and I'd imagine during the day in the summer it would look very nice indeed.

Once you get outside the ground, don't bother trying to look for stuff to do because you'll just be wasting your time. The only relatively interesting thing around the ground is a chip shop just around the corner that, although cheap, does not give generous portions. Realistically if you want something to do then you're going to have to walk for about 5/6 minutes to find something reasonably worth doing.

Getting inside the ground and you start to wonder when the last time the ground was upgraded was, but to be fair it's not the worst ground in the world. The away terrace is fairly large, it can hold around 2,500 but it's very shallow meaning that if it's crowded, you will struggle. The facilities in the away end are also very poor, with the toilet literally being nothing more than a gutter in the floor.

To the right of away fans is a seated section that is probably the best stand at the ground, although to describe it as anything other than ordinary would be highly generous. It is a seated stand that could hold roughly 2,000 fans and has some executive boxes around the top. The stand behind the far goal was a large terrace with a roof on and to be fair, I can't really comment on this because all games have been night games and there appeared to be no light on in the stand.

The final stand to our left was a ¾ pitch length seated stand, however, this was also extremely shallow and is very reminiscent of several League 2 stands at the time. I went in here briefly during one of the visits and the view from this stand is quite poor, with a big fence blocking the view.

York fans don't really get behind their side during the match and even when winning you wouldn't have really heard many chants from the home crowd. In three visits I have barely heard the York fans. One thing I would say about York fans though is that they are generally pleasent from my experiences.

Overall, I did not enjoy either trip to York and the chances of coming for a random game are fairly slim..
