Simon Weaver is set to secure a move to League 2 rivals, Macclesfield Town to get first team football. He would join former Imp, Mark Bailey at the Moss Rose side and would be a great addition to a side that has suprised everyone so far this season.

John Askey, the Macclesfield assistant manager watched Weaver play for City reserves in a 2-2 draw with Doncaster and was said to be impressed with the defender. Macclesfield become the 5th club to make an enquiry about Weaver along with Cheltenham Town and 3 unnamed Conference clubs whilst Saturday's opponents Kidderminster have also been rumoured to be highly interested in Weaver.

The gaffer told me about Macclesfield's enquiry, and I'm very grateful for the way he is being straight with me about what is going on," said Weaver.

"I knew Macclesfield were there watching yesterday and I think I had a steady game, so hopefully that will lead to something happening.

"It's positive to know clubs are showing an interest, and with a bit of luck something will be sorted sooner, rather than later.

Weaver has said he would jump at the chance of joining Macclesfield and help them put a playoff bid together.

"Macclesfield would be a great move for me. Brian Horton has put a good team together and I just want to be back playing again. I'm training as hard as I can but if you're not playing you do lose a little bit of sharpness."

If he secures a move to Macclesfield, he would rejoin Mark Bailey who moved there in the summer and would reform part of the defence that conceeded just 37 goals in the 2002/3 season.

"I think I developed a good understanding with Mark down the right-hand side, and I would relish the chance to link up with him again," admitted Weaver. "I'll be speaking to him about it and maybe he can put a good word in."
